Why do I have to pay an agency to tell me about my adoption I had 21 years ago?

Has anyone had a problem with finding a child because an agency said that there is a fee for this contact? I was flabbergasted to find this out when all the information is right in front of them. And now they tell me I have to wait because it isn't a good time because of the holidays. Wasn't this my adoption?

Does any one have any good helpful information on this?

Did your place your child through a private agency? I can't really help you on the fee aspect. I surrendered my son at birth to the County Department of Social Services Adoption Division. And 18 years later, the reunion was handled thru their post-adoption caseworker. There were no fees of any kind involved. All I had to pay for was the notary fee to my bank for witnessing my signature on the confidentiality waiver. (Thank you, San Diego County DSS!)

I know I've read other birth mothers and adoptees on this Forum posting about agency fees for search and reunion. Hopefully one of them will pop on over to this thread soon. Hang in there!
