What is a birth index? I am looking for my birthmother and have not had a lot of success at the library in Osage, IA.

I tried the paper where I was born at and there was nothing in there about me. I tried the day I was born and then I also looked for a discharge date. I would try to look in the paper, it is always worth a shot.

My understanding of a birth index is a record of births the state keeps. I am not sure how it works in every state but in MO the index is altered as soon as the decree goes into effect. Bummer. Good luck with your search.
