NJ Sealed Records - Question after reuniting

I am from NJ and have been reunited with my birth family. I' was hoping someone could give me some advice on how to proceed with getting my birth records unsealed. I called the Vital Statistics office to find out if there was a form or something that I could fill out to get this done since I was in contact with my birth parents and they said NO - you have to go to court and they will only unseal them with a judge's order. Does anyone know if there are any issues with getting this done with the consent of my birth parents and the other side of this is that they live in CA and I wouldn't want to have to have them appear in court for this - can they do it with paperwork from California? Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

Hi - I'm in the same position you are in. Reunited and we'd ALL like the records, especially the OBC. I too was told to file a motion to open them. I haven't done it yet, but from what I understand, it is not overly complicated. If I find anything out I will let you know. Please let me know if you find any other info. By the way, where was your adoption finalized?

Thanks for you reply. I would love to hear any updates you might have. I believe my adoption was finalized in Orange, NJ.

No problem. I was finalized in Paterson, Passaic County. I believe Orange is Essex County. Have you called the Family Court clerk's office there? Try that....maybe you will get lucky and you'll speak to someone who can be helpful...maybe even have the forms to fill out. Passaic County doesn't have the forms and I guess that's what's been stopping me. Just finding the time to get it together! I know a lot of times even if you file the motion, depending on you get to hear it.....the outcome differs. You would think with everyone on the same page, it wouldn't be a problem. Don't even get me started LOL! Let me know how you make out.
