** died at 23, will the court open the record?

After finding my b-mom s couple of months ago, and finding out she died at the age of 23, and finding where she is buried, I also have a picture now of her, I've kind of let it go.

If I can prove my bio-mom died, and the adoption agency claims there is no identifying info in the ile about bio-father, will they release the file to me?

Any one have any idea?

That's a tough one

Through my birthmother I found out that my birthfather died in 1974. However, the agency that handled my adoption will not release anything in file until they have his death certificate in hand. Let me tell you, that's a huge chore and has led to turning my life into what feels like a soap opera.
Submit your b-mom's death certificate, the worst they can tell you is no.

Currently in reunion with Birthmother - Judy and have a death certificate for my birthfather - Found his stepsister and am now trying to open his adoption file.

In all this - I think I may have stumbled on to something regarding adoptions in Michigan back in the late 1930's and early 1940's - If you were adopted then - please contact me I've got questions!!

You need to check what the laws are for the state where the adoption was finalized.

You will also need the copy of the death certificate.

In some states it is necessary for a certain number of years to have passed and then you have to petition for the records to be opened.
