Well, I'll just get straight to it. My father was born in souther Arizona in appx. 1953. His birth name was either Garcia or Gomez (lol...yeah, I know....not exactly a rare name) He is deceased as our both my grandparents that adopted him. I can probably get his birth certificate from a family member. I'm not looking to even meet anyone related to me, just find my nationality. (Even though you can make obvious assumptions based on name)
So any suggested starting point? Also, he was adopted from the Catholic Church here in AZ.

Go for it! Birth and death certificates have all kinds of great info.
And if an agency was involved, they likely can give you the nationality
information you want, as well as other non-identifying info.

Some people won't be willing to help you search if your only motive is curiosity.

It's almost like they want you sign some sort of a pledge card promising
that you're looking for either medical information that will save your life
or that you want nothing less than a "happily ever after" reunion.

(I'm not one of those people. Just a FYI.)

My father was adopted by his stepfather. I have been able to research his bio family with out contacting anyone directly. Good luck!
