What is a good med cause for records to be opened
I was born in Ohio in 1974 and have hit nothing but brick walls in my search. I was told the only way to open my file (since no consent form was signed by b/mom) is to have a good medical reason. What do the Ohio courts consider a good medical reason? Ohio is such a hard state with incomplete birth indexes and all of their laws.
Do they consider bi-polar manic depression a good cause? This is so frustrating. Stacy |

"Reason of good cause"
Stacey.......bi-polar is considered 'good cause' with some courts and some judges. U]The best advice I have for you is to have a doctor and/or therapist to atest to your condition, in writing...to request all medical history for consideration of you treatment redgiment.[/u] Anxiety, stress and depression are all 3 fire balls in an adoption search......seems to me that those 3 things can only cause trouble mentally and emotionally for someone suffering from bi-polar.
Then you can petition the court! (a 'guardian et litum' will be appointed to your case...usually costs about $200) When doing that include the requests from your doctors AND WRITE A SHORT 'TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN' LETTER to any birth realitive the court may contact during their search for medical info on you. By including this letter and the instructions to the judge that it be given to a birth realitive there is a good possiblitiy of a response. ****In the letter tell them that they can register with your state registry (you need to be registered also!) and when both sides are registered the state has to exchange the identifying info for both sides. I hope that some of this will help you in your search. God Bless little one and good luck on your journey. Ann |

also looking to open original records
Hi. I have a thyroid condition as well as some anxiety problems and am wondering just what it takes to obtain a court that will open my records. My health hasn't been very good for awhile now and I really need to find out more information about my parents because I myself am a parent and need to know what my child may or may not inherit from my bloodline.
Is having serious thyroid problems cause to open records? I was adopted in Iowa in 1980 and am not sure what the laws were at the time about things like that.

Stacey
I'm actually from New Jersey but the Judge here gave me my birthmothers name, birthday and where she was from. I had asked for my birth certificate but that wasn't in the file - anyway the info he gave me was off the record because NJ is a Sealed State. He felt that since I had been operated on for Colon Cancer I had a right to my medical history. My motion to the courts included documentation. Good Luck p.s. birthmom doesn't believe in inherited medical conditions - it's all God's Will |
