Getting kids to read!!
I just wanted to share a method that I have found to be extremely effective in spurring my child on to want to read. I have tried a plethora of suggestions but the simple fact is that toys are more fun! So, what I've found helpful is to introduce book characters through more engaging mediums, like DVDs or stuffed animals, etc. For instance, I introduced my son to the Thomas the Tank Engine series through the DVD set (http://www.nestentertainment.com/sto...&idproduct=117) then bought some of the corresponding books. Since he was already familiar to the characters and storyline, he absolutely LOVES to read the Thomas Tank Engine books!! I think this method could work for any type of story or character theme, not just Thomas!!
