multiplication tables
I'm looking for any tips on how to help my 10 year old learn her multiplication tables without it being drudgery. Games, songs, is there any way to make it fun?

My son has a multiplication CD. Each song is for a different sets of numbers (i.e. two's three's, etc). We purchased it at a teacher's supply store. I don't remember the title of it.

We have the music cd (you can buy it at amazon) as well I picked up a "Math War" card game from the grocery store school supplies section. I think ALOT depends on how your child learns.
Its because of learning (or actually NOT learning) times tables that my son was able to be diagnosed with a visual processing disorder. So we do LOTS of repitition and lots of tactile discovery. Jen

When I was a kid, my mother found a copy of Marmaduke Multiply -- which had rhymes to help learn. Not sure if it's still in print.

School House Rock! The sensation of the 70's still works today. Even my 6 year old knows her 3 tables from singing "Three is a Magic Number." They are available as audio or video/DVD. There are also School House Rock songs about grammar (Conjunction Junction, what's your function? Hooking up words and phrases and clauses...), history (elbow room, elbow room, gotta, gotta, gotta get some elbow room!), and science (Electricity, EEElectricity!). Fabulous.
