I think that she thought that it would be like being in Disneyland everyday. Now things are fine. It took them about 1 year to really adjust. Since the adoption, I have learned a bunch of Russian and, unfortunately, they have forgotten their's. It has worked out real well. It is coming up on 2 years since the adoption. Both girls are extremely social and active. Our oldest daughter (Aliana) is especially smart. Unfortunately, they left behind 5 older siblings. Maybe we will go back someday. "Do svidaniya!"

Dear Jeff, My husband and I are also trying to adopt two biological sisters from Russia, my biggest concern was the language barrier. I keep thinking how scared they must be coming to a different country with two people they don't know and not knowing what anyone is saying or how to communicate. Your message made me feel better that they do adjust. Any advice on helping them? thanks, Kathy

Debbie- I have spoken with many parents that have come home with 2 children at once- sibs and unrelated, I believe you should be prepared for a significant (6-9 month) wait when requesting infant girls, and if you restrict yourself to siblings it could lengthen your wait.
Have you visited FRUA? Good Luck! |

CURRENTLY I AM IN THE PROCESS OF ADOPTING 2-BROTHER AND SISTER. HE AGE 13, AND SHE AGE 9. THEY ARE PART OF 6 SIBLINGS--THE OTHERS, 2 SETS OF TWINS-- AGES 6 AND 7 ARE BEING ADOPTED BY PARENT THAT LIVE IN THE AREA. WE STARTED ADOPTION PROCESS THROUGH CAMP KIDS HOPE HERE IN FLORIDA WHEN THEY CAME IN JANUARY. SO WE HAVE SEEN AND SPENT TIME WITH THE CHILDREN. THE PROCESS IS TAKING LONGER THAN I HAD HOPED. BUT WE ARE TARGETING FOR ALL OF US TO GO TO RUSSIA IN JULY TO GET THE KIDS.
EVERYONE SAYS THEY WILL LEARN ENGLISH FASTER THAN EXPECTED, PLUS I FEEL THAT'S WHAT I'M PAYING THE SCHOOLS TO HELP WITH. I THINK ADOPTING 2 WILL ACTUALLY BE EASIER THAN 1. CJ DIXON Last edited by CJDIXON : 04-17-2003 at 06:34 PM. |
