Adopting A Russian Child with Asian features?
We have two beautiful girls from Kazakhstan. We now have good friend who wanted to adopt from Kaz, but cannot because of their age. I have heard that you can adopt children from Russia with Asian features. Evidently, if you go to a region near the Kaz. border? Has anyone done this???

Hi,
I hope you are well. I adopted my child not very far from the Moscow Region, but I have also read on this and and on other boards that for families willing to go near other borders(Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, S. Korea) there are a lot of Russian-born children with Asian features. I believe I have read that many who adopt children with Asian features end up in the Russian far east, eg. Vladivostok. I think you will get more definitive responses as the weekend and next week goes on. Best of luck to your friends, Amy K, NJ

I am sure there are others who will chime in who are more familier, but I can tell you that a friend of my SIL's adopted two children from Russia with very Asian features. One child is from Siberia. Not sure which region the other child is from.
Good luck to your friend in their adoption journey!

adopting child with asian features
I just did! He is from Krasnoyarsk. I think you will be able to find Asian children all over Russia. My agency asks you to check off if you are open to an asian child, which I was. He is just adorable, smart, healthy, easy going. I just had him evaluated by early intervention and he was in the 99th percentile! You can see his pic on my blog at Waiting for Vladimir.

We adopted from Vladivostok and there were not that many euro asian children there that we saw(there were a few).
But, there are many euro-asian children in Russia and all your friend needs to do is to let her agency know that this her preference. I would not dictate to an agency what region she wants to travel to as this could be limiting. You may also let her know if she is open to a boy her chances of a healthy child with in her parameters (race, age, etc) are higher and her wait time will be less. Good luck!

Cindy I'm so happy to hear your DS is adjusting so well!
I have another online friend who travelled to Moscow region this summer. She saw several Eurasion children in the orphange so you don't necessarily have to go to the borders on the south or the east. |

Oh my goodness!!! He is an absolute doll! So worth the wait. He reminds me of my older daughter from Kazakhstasn. Thank you, thank you for your region information. I know my friends are going to be thrilled!

Im glad others chimed In. I knew that there were many Russian children with Asian mixed in that were available, but I dont know the details. In my child's area, there weren't, but Russia is a big, big land. Best of luck to the OP!

Areas such as Ulan ude, Irkutsk, Chita, even further East, could be possible. Locate Lake Baykal on a map in Russia, just N of Mongolia. Best advice would be from an agency that 'works' in areas near Asian/Russia Borders.
Good Luck ![]()

We've adopted twice from Russia. Once from Saratov (south & near the Kaz boarder) and once from Moscow City. We've also adopted from Kaz. All three of my kiddos look as if they could be biologically related. They all have very asian features.

There's a young boy in DS's daycare who has very Asian features I was surprised when he started speaking Russian! Seriously, I thought he was Chinese. His parents, both Russian, also have very Asian features but no idea from whence they hail.
