OT~ Request for my praying friends...

Alex needs to have an eye test on Thursday...this will give us definite answers as to what his vision is and whether or not his vision loss is permanent. We are driving down to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute tomorrow and then again Thursday morning for a sedated electroretinagraphy. Even though he has been put under before...I am, of course, more nervous based on his current health issues and medications...but I'd be nervous regardless.

So, if you are of the praying type...please pray for our safe travels (I hate driving to Miami and I am traveling with just DS tomorrow...no DH until Thursday)...please pray for his doctors...please pray for my boy...and finally for our acceptance of whatever the results happen to be.

Also, please pray that the heart murmur the pediatrician heard yesterday in his clearance check-up turns out to be an innocent murmur...we go to the cardiologist on September 3rd. It was not enough to keep him from being sedated but her direct quote was 'We don't want to take any chances because this is Alex we are dealing with.' (I honestly feel she is probably overreacting based on her self-imposed feelings of guilt over missing his JRA...which she should not feel bad about...we don't.)

Anyway...I appreciate it and thank you for all the support you all offer here.

Thanks...

Prayers were answered...GREAT NEWS and much THANKS!!!!!!!!!

Alex did great through the procedure...which included having both eyes patched, covered in black tape, and then a black inch thick mask placed over all of that for 45 minutes. This was prior to the 'giggle juice'...but he remained completely calm...everyone was thrilled and stunned. I am so proud of him...he is so brave. I was very nervous about him going under this time...but no need to worry...the doctors and entire staff were great and knowledgeable....and DS recovered perfectly.

Now onto the best news...his ophthalmologist was wrong!!! I have never been so happy...Alex has 'perfectly normal retinas' according to the neuro ophthalmologist. He is considered to 'simply have motor nystagmus and his vision will not get worse.' In fact, we will continue to patch in hopes that the weaker eye will improve. I was certain we were getting bad news today...I had prepared myself...so this was wonderful news...and a complete surprise. Yes his vision is still 'low' in one eye (20/150..meaning he can only read the second line...the one below the big 'E'...on the chart)...but it may be correctable. Works for us!

And I have to say...Bascom Palmer deserves their number one rating...they were beyond impressive. I have never had such a pleasant experience as we had there. Not only are they great on the medical side...their 'customer service' was certainly a step above.

Prayers were answered today!!
