Immigration fees or WACAP Waiting Children?
Hi, DH and I have been contemplating adopting for some time now. We are considering adopting two boys (age 3+) through the WACAP waiting child program. Two questions: 1) Has anyone done this? If so, how much did you spend--total?
2) In terms of adopting from Russia, regardless of agency/program used, how much did you pay--in total--for immigration fees? Thanks so, so much! |

I am sorry, we did not adopt that way. I can tell you that it cost us, grand total, just over 30,000.00 4 years ago. The actual adoption fee was something like 17,000.00, but by the time we traveled twice and added all the other fees and costs, it doubled.
As I understand it, it is costing about 50,000.00 today to bring home an infant. I think the cost goes down if you are looking at older children. Good luck as you work through the process.

What do you mean by "immigration fees"? The cost of an I600A visa application is $525.
Does that help?

You may be asking about immigration, which K8C mentioned already about I600A visa, but you also have all of the US gov't paperwork here before.... Homestudy, police checks, child abuse checks, several finger printing appointments, all of your apostille/notarization fees, and when in Russia, the fees there... passport for your child, doctor's appointment, American embassy appointment for paperwork, various other items. My total cost including travel (2 trips) all fees, gifts, etc. was over
34K and this was 4 1/2 years ago. A very good friend just went through this process 6 months ago (she came home with her 4 1/2 year old son - took almost 2 years) her costs where approx. 43K. (she had 3 trips with the law changes and she could not stay the 10 days between court and the waiting period).
