Home for 5 years!

Hi all-

We adopted from the Saratov region (Volsk in particular) in 2004 Our boys were 3.5 and 4.5 years old when we adopted them. We went to get the youngest (William) and ended up adopting his best friend (Timothy) as well. Fast forward five years, we had a giant pool party last weekend to celebrate the occasion and we've got two rowdy American boys about to go into 3rd grade. Back then it was literally 90 days from the day we walked into the agency until we had been on two trips and were home with our kids. Not much time to really think about all we should have but we survived!

Our road to family life has had its ups and downs (one child has had two eye surgeries and the other son is VERY ADHD but we love our medication -- its been a Godsend) My husband and I who never had a cross word before we had two kids have had our share of struggles but we are getting to a good place these days. Not sure if we are ready for pre-teenhood but we'll see what that brings!

Good luck to everyone going through the journey -- its well worth it!

Alli

Hi Ally!

So good to hear from you, it's nice when all the old timers come back to visit the board. Congrats on five years home! Would love to see pics of your Saratov babies.

I handed in my dossier to my agency on June 17, 2009 but one thing had to be redone so it was officially complete on July 14, 2009. Let the waiting begin!

What a great story of your life and family. Almost nobody adopts the older children, and in Russia (as you probably know) the children who live their whole lives in orphanages do not do well when they become adults. You saved two lives!

Want to share any pics?

Congrats on 5 years...and glad to hear things are getting better. I hear ya on the ADHD meds and having the 'ups and downs.' May you have more ups than downs.
