Hello! Father now starting the Adoption Process
First - I apologize if posted in the wrong forum. I decided on IA because my wife and I are starting the process of Adopting a girl from Russia.
Little bit about ourselves - We're both 33, hoping to adopt a 3-4yo girl. We live in Seattle, WA We continued the tradition of my family - Marrying highschool sweethearts. My 2 older brothers, My older Sister, My younger sister and me all married our highschool companions.  Why did we adopt - Even at 20 we both agreed on adoption. Every sibling in my family has a child (mostly boys, but a girl got in every once in a while). So there's none of the "Our Bloodline/Name must live on!" feeling. We both agreed that there are a lot of children out there already, and we can make a difference (even if only to 1 child). We also believe that blood doesn't make a family. I have many friends who I feel are my brothers in sisters in everyway that matters. DNA/Bio matches are useful for organ donors but that's it, to me. We are godparents to 3 different children (2 family, 1 friend) and believe with all of our hearts that if the horrific happened, we would raise the child(ren) with no less love just because we aren't directly blood related. Why Russia - We don't know. For some reason, when we try to visualize our lives with a child, the child is a girl. And from the countries listed it always seemed to return to Russia. Well that's about it. I am glad to be here and hope to share in the experiences as well as be able to share some of our own.

hi and welcome to you and your wife!
our journey to our two russian daughters was interesting, to say the very least. it is a roller coaster ride that many times i wanted to get off. but, i can look back now and say i would not change a thing if given the chance. this is a great place to get all sorts of information and answers to pretty much any question.

Welcome to the forum and Russian Adoption! As others have mentioned, this is not a journey for the meek. But if you are determined to raise/love a child you will be fine. Please ask us for any support you need.

9/3/08 Signed up w/agency 9/8/08 Sent I600A form without Homestudy 9/20/08 Homestudy started 9/22/08 Mailed fingerprints to FBI 10/2/08 FBI OK'd us 10/15/08 Biometrics done for I600A 11/24/08 Homestudy mailed to complete I600A 12/15/08 Dossier to Russia 1/20/09 I171H received 4/9/09 Received 2 refferals! Boy and Girl! 4/15/09 Now have 1 of 2 referrals. Still waiting on 1! 4/21/09 Received 2nd referral! 4/28/09 Accepted 2nd referral and waiting on 1st trip! 5/11/09 Child #2 is no longer available, back to waiting for another referral. 5/27/09 Still waiting for trip #1 for referral #1. Paperchasing to submit new dossier to a different region for referral #2. 6/15/09 Dossier done. Waiting for referral for #2. Still waiting on travel dates for #1. 6/17/09 Travel dates for #1! 6/25/09 Decided to complete adoption for #1 and return for #2 about 6 months after being home with #1. 6/27/09-7/4/09 Trip #1 completed
