Wireless access in most regions? Is Magicjack a good option? Phone cards?
I am thinking about possibly getting a MagicJack for when I travel to Russia and to use at my home. Since it has to be hooked up to a computer with internet, I was wondering if most regions and hotels have wireless internet somewhere in the hotel? There won't be much of a reason to get it if I can't get internet on my laptop. Has anyone used MagicJack over in Russia? Was is worth it or did anyone use phone cards and think that was a good option? Any info is appreciated. Thanks

The only thing I am waiting for is my I-600A approval in the mail and then I am done! I handed in my dossier to my agency on June 17, 2009 but one thing had to be redone so it was officially complete on July 14, 2009. Let the waiting begin!

I live in Russia. I use Skype. Prior to Skype, I used phone cards (only Apollo ones). Both work well and are either very inexpensive or free (for skype to skype calls).
Most apartments have free internet access. I think the hotels will charge you for it in your room, but there should be a business center.

When we were in Moscow, there was wireless acccess in the hotel, a Marriott, as well as a business center in the hotel. In region, in the city of Novokuznetsk, there was nothing at the hotel at all.

I have the majicjack and skype. Here is the deal with both of these. It really depends on the wireless connection you get. You would have to research the region that you are going to in order to see if there is service.
For instance, I have ATT. If ATT has a partnership agreement for regions in Russia, my wireless card will work. Since MajicJack and Skype are VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) they will work with a broadband connection or Wi-Fi. Check with your wireless card carrier or check to see if your hotel has Wi-Fi. If they have a conncetion or Wi-Fi, you are golden. Hope this helps,
