Unhappy Horror...heartbreak in my hometown! ~ WAY OT!

I am sick today...I grew up in Johnson City, NY...I worked and lived in Binghamton, NY as an adult. This just doesn't happen there. Almost ALL of my family still lives there...most of the kids I graduated high school with still live there...THIS DOESN"T HAPPEN IN BINGHAMTON. <sigh>

What is happening in this world?

Since that pastor was shot last month...we have a police presence at our church...we have ARMED policemen and undercover police at every service.

What is wrong with this world?!

I grew up in a safe place...I worship in a safe place...but the 'real' world keeps rearing it's ugly head.

Why does this keep happening?

Today...I am beyond sad...I really don't understand what is going on.

Binghamton is a college town...the worst that ever happened was drunk kids doing stupid things...not some crazed gunman killing 14 people. Binghamton is where IBM started...where houses are cheap...where there are some of the lowest crime levels...in the nation!

WHAT. IS. HAPPENING?!

Yep...it's amazing what it happening today...sad place to be raising kids sometimes. Hard to explain. What is happening would depend on your beliefs...
I'm sorry for the pain your hometown is going through!

It is awful! I really do not know what is happening out there. I am at present awaiting the police to show up. A woman and I had a wee altercation at toys R us today. Her son was kicking my son and I asked him to stop and to say sorry. Pretty standard mommy behavior in todays world. I have been on the other side of the coin and been asked by another mom to have my son appologize no biggie! Apparently she got my licence number as we left the store because I honked at her she was 15 feet in front of her kid in the parking lot and when I honked she turned around and ran to him. Perhaps the world has gone mad. I am sick of this threatening environment. I am stunned!

DH and I were just talking about this. I really think the ecomony has more to do with alot of these situations than what has been documented so far. Especially in some of the recent cases of fathers killing children and then themselves.

I am worried that this is going to continue with unemployment and gov't cuts on important issues like therapy and social workers. I know the gov't cuts in Illinois have had a huge effect on services to many. I imagine that is happening everywhere. And for people on the edge who everywhere they look its more bad news, its like a time bomb.

I'm sorry this has hit so close to home for you. We're still in that place where we are keeping things from the kids but when it hits home that's pretty hard. We just got back from a few days away at a hotel and I had to keep the news off. It made me think of my time growing up when my parents sent me out of the room to watch the news for updates on the war.
