question about TB skin test, please help!
I got the skin test for TB prob 8-10 years ago and the skin test came out mildly positive, but after chest x-ray they said I was fine and negative.
So I go again this week to get it done for my dossier and I told my doctor beforehand that I had a positive one years before, had the chest x-ray and my doctor at that time said not to get the skin tests anymore that I did not have TB. So I did get the test because I figured I would have to for the dossier since the results have to be within 6mo-1year and it came out more positive this time. I guess the size of the positive area meant that I have to get treated with meds for 9 months and get another chest x-ray. They don't think I have TB, just been exposed to it. I mean I would have been sick over the last 8-10 years if I did. My question is did anyone have this problem or think this will hold up my paperwork? Like I said I don't have TB, just had an exposure. I can't spread anything. I just wonder if Russia will understand that and allow my paperwork to go through. By the time I would go to Russia Im sure I would be done with the 9months of meds.for exposure. I am soooo stressed about it!!! I called my agency to ask, but I figured I would see if anyone knows anything about this situation. ![]()

The only thing I am waiting for is my I-600A approval in the mail and then I am done! I handed in my dossier to my agency on June 17, 2009 but one thing had to be redone so it was officially complete on July 14, 2009. Let the waiting begin!

This shouldn't show up on your paperwork at all. Your doc is only required to report if you are positive for TB - not just the antibodies. Both my kids are on the 9 months meds and the doc specifically said that he didn't need to notify anyone (like their school or anything)...
Hopefully someone else will know more!

I will be sure to mention that to my doctor when I talk to her next week. Thanks so much for the info.

Where we live a positive test means you have to be reported to county and that they give you a cert showing that you do not have it.
No one notified schools or anything. Good luck!

Unless you think your region has an under cover operative stationed at your medical facility.... I would just file that tid bit of information under the just casually dating section of the Russian relationship.
You and your Doctor should determine the treatment plan and less is always more...... that is all I am saying. IA is one of the times where you need to be in the drivers seat with the Doctor. You must tell them the way it is. Unless you are required to have an in country exam then be certain to provide accurate info.. Good luck! These little scares are one of many on the road to family.... Best of luck!

our russian girls had the 9 months of meds and are supposed to have a certificate to show when it comes to entering school and stuff. but we never got the certificate. i'm not sure if it's supposed to come from the doctor or the state...? anyone know?

Votemom - we had a postitive test on girlie only. It was kind of scary at the time because the nurse had never seen a + test and freak out a bit, freaking me out too.
They notified the county health dept before we left and gave me the number to make an appointment there. Everyone in the house had to be retested at the county. We were all negative. We were sent to the hospital with a script for chest films for her. They read the films right there for us and called the county with the negative results. We had to go back into county a day or two later to have them look at the test result again. They saw that we (other than DD) were all negative and that DDs films were negative and gave us each a cert right then showing we were fine. I kept these but her school never asked for them. So we got our certs right away to show we were clear. I would call your county and ask if you were suppose to get these.

I have always had a positive TB skin test. Originally from germany, as a children, we get vaccinated until the Tine test (another kind of TB test) is really positive. I got vaccinated three times, just imagine the reaction of the health department nurse after reading my test. I did not have to take the meds (since it was from vaccination), but I got a recent chest x-ray for my adoption agency to prove that my lungs are o.k. I really dont do skin tests anymore, and some people are aware of the procedures in Europe. That might be the reason, why some of the children test positive too. I am not sure what the Vaccination schedules are for kids in Russia, but I am guessing that thney especially take care of orphans, because a TB outbreak is the last thing you want in an orphanage. To make a long story short, I think that a chest x-ray should be enough for the agency to prove that you do not have TB.
Hope all goes well |
