G884
I'm finally getting around to mailing in my request for return of the original documents. For those that have done this, did you send in paperwork showing the adoption is final or a copy of their CoC? Also, where do you mail it? I keep seeing to mail it to the office that processed your entry - does that mean the airport office where you landed? I'm thinking no - so, how do I know which office? Thanks!

You need to email uscis to see who currently has your file. The address is:Child-Citizenship-Act@dhs.gov
They usually answer within 24 hours. Send the child's A# from your COC and name upon entry. You need to send copy of BC (showing your name as parent)with G-884 and copy of Passport/Visa for child's identity. You also need to send your information, copy of passport. Good Luck!

The form I have states that you should mail it to the office that you originally filed the I-600 at.
copied: Part 3. Signature. Submit Your Form G-884. If your case is pending, submit your Form G-884 to the USCIS district or suboffice or service center currently processing your case. If a final decision has been issued, submit the Form G-884 to the USCIS office or service center that took the last action on your case.

Here is the current statement regarding where to send the G884 from the USCIS site:
If your case is pending, submit your Form G-884 to the USCIS district, suboffice, or service center that is currently processing your case. If a final decision has been issued, submit the Form G-884 to the USCIS office or service center that took the last action on your case. Because the adoption is complete, the G884 would go to the last office that took action on the case. The last office that took action on your case would have been the Buffalo office that issued your COC, but since you have been home a while, I agree with Cborsa7 that you should email and confirm where the packet is before mailing the form. You need to include two pieces of ID for you child (copy of passport and COC) and a copy of their BC to prove you are the parent and have the right to request the packet. In addition, even though the directions don't ask for it some people are asked for ID for themselves, so it wouldn't hurt to put in a copy of your DL and passport just to cover all the bases.

This process actually changed several months ago when they began moving and storing the files differently. Once located the G-884 should take about 6 weeks to return.

You know that manilla envelope you get and have to leave (without ever opening it) with immigration as you first process through? Well, this form allows you access to that information. The info inside is different for each child - but I've read of there being photos in there and medical information...so if there is anything of probative value - I want it. The form is free to file, so I think it's a good idea for anyone to go for it. You can print it online and have it notarized to mail in or walk it into a USCIS office!

The email address someone posted above is your best bet right now - they actually responded to me within one day - but I had forgotten the kids A numbers from their CoCs...so if you email - include those. I'll let you know what I find out - hopefully today!

If your child/children have been home for a while, the packet has probably made its way to the National Records Center for filing, but as kretzklan said, the best bet is to email to confirm where it is. If you send the G884 to the wrong place it can be lost forever in USCIS-land. When a new gentleman took over the Buffalo office a while back that was when they started posting that email to check where the packet was because there were so many lost and misdirected G884's.
Definetly include the A# though as that is what they track the packet by.

They just emailed me and said to mail my stuff to Buffalo - we've been home since late 2005 if that does make a difference. He said the only doc he needs a copy of is a birth certificate naming us as parents - either the one issued in Russia or the one from our state readoption. I'm still sending my dl copy and passport copy for me...but they didn't need that for the kids! He was very quick and polite!

Very odd as that goes against the directions on the form. USCIS makes NO sense! They don't even follow their own directions! ![]() I really hope that your form doesn't get rejected for lack of documentation. I know of people on the Guat forum who have submitted what is asked for in the instructions (two forms of ID for the child and a copy of the BC) and had it rejected for ID for themselves. Which is not asked for on the form. So there is no rhyme or reason. Just crazy.

A# = adoption number?
where is the adoption number found. i supposed i could drag out all my paperwork to try and figure it out on my own, but i'm trying to avoid draggin out any paperwork until i have to. still after having our kids home 18 months, the thot of adoption paperwork just about does me in!

A# is found on your COC and also on the passport/Visa.
