Hello all
My husband and I are thinking about adoption of siblings from Russia. He is currently taking 10mg Lexapro per day for Anxiety(very low dose). While most agencies have said right away no in our case to Russia, there are two agencies that say it is evaluated on a case by case basis, and in my husbands situation it should not be a problem. They also assured me, that we could change countries at no extra cost if Russia did have a problem with it. Anyone have any experience with adoption on meds from Russia? I would love some feedback on agencies as well (we are thinking of: Adoption Ark, Children's Home Sciety, Holt Adoption, European Adoption Agency and a few more). Thanks for your future responses |

i think you should talk it over with your doctor. he/she is the one who must complete a medical report on you and your husband. if he/she thinks it is worth mentioning (i.e. it is significant to your husband being a parent), then he will include that information. if he/she does not think it is significant, then perhaps he may opt not to include it.
i think it's best to discuss matters like this with your doctor before discussing it with your agency. because it's not always worth mentioning, if you know what i mean.

Just talk to your doctor
I too am on a low dose and when I went in
to have my medical report done I told the Dr. I was no longer taking the medicine with a little wink and she had no problem ommiting it from my medical report.

medication
Hi,
I have generalized anxiety disorder, but with my meds I live a full life. My adoption was two years ago but my agency was large and was able to find a region for us. Although the judge grilled me and I had to provide extra forms(psychologists and psychiatrist's licenses) I was able to get the job done and I think I'm doing ok so far parenting(most days ). Please PM me if you want the name of my agency/caseworker.Although my adoption passed, I would assume it can still be done. Amy K, NJ

I did the exact same thing as the previous person. I said I was no longer on the drug (which was Lexapro) and she didn't put it on my form. She knew I had refills and never said another word about it. I have my form and it has no mention of Lexapro. On the form it does say history of depression but my doctor put no. I told her I only took it when I got stressed at. Try saying he doesn't take it and if you see that she is going to make it as a history say something and maybe she will omit it.

Remember - you're adopting children. But you're only dating the Russian government. And how much do you really tell your dates?!

I agree with votemom, talk to your doc first. I took Ativan as needed during the stress of our second adoption and fears of traveling and leaving behind our older guy, my anxiety was interfering with my sleep and life some days. So the ativan was a God send, but it wasn't on our medical because it really was situational and self limiting.
Becky-great analogy!!!

I can't say for sure, but I'd think if your doctor won't omit it, you can find a new family doctor just for the purpose of the medical exams and just not tell him/her about the meds.
Good luck!!!

I am in this boat now. I occassionally suffer anxiety and currently, after the first trip, I am fairly anxious. I am close with my family doctor and simply assume that he will leave it off the form or I can simply go to a doctor who doesn't know me. Does anybody know whether the Russian 8 doctor panel involves any test for benzos like ativan? If so, then I would simply not take any for a couple weeks before the exam. No big deal, right?

I've deleted several posts from this thread.
We do not allow the discussion of illegal activities here on the forum. We do not condone nor do we allow the discussion of ways around the rules in adoption programs here on the forum. Program rules are in place for a reason. If you don’t meet the guidelines for a specific adoption program, then it’s possible you might need to investigate other options. Countries have the right to set aside any type of guideline they wish in the adoption process and we here, at Adoption.com, will not provide a venue for people to discuss ways to skirt the guidelines in those programs.
