OT: Help me choose a covertible booster for travel!!!!
Help!!!
We will be living in Peru for 4 months and I don't want to lug down our giant Britax Marathons if we don't have to (we will have a driver on occasion, but small cars)....... Both kids are big/old enough to move up to the convertible booster chairs (we are looking at the ones that still have 5 pt harness, but can become booster someday).......but I am having trouble choosing.... I was first drawn to the Britax Frontier (stay in 5 pt till they are 65 pounds and 52" tall) But its pretty heavy and big........ Many reviews for the Sunshine Kids Radian were good, and its smaller overall, very portable.... but lots of people complained about how tough it was to get a good tight installation.... SO, my wishlist is this: safety portability ease of installation overall size (to fit 2 of them, and a person in b/t them) specs for 5 pt allow use past 40 lbs Any suggestions anyone??? I am baffled as to other good options and want to get this resolved soon. HELP, we leave in a month, and I don't know what to get! (I posted this same plea in the parenting/car seat section, but it doesn't look as active there, so I thought my friends here might have some advice!!!) ![]()

Carrie,
You're moving to Peru?? What will Golden do without you!!! Can't help you with the boosters -- I have one for my neice, but it's just the basic Graco base (in Michigan if you have a shoulder strap in the backseat and a headrest only the base is needed) since she's in my car all the time. But I will be thinking about you on your travels!! Amy |

There don't seem to be many 5 point harness boosters that aren't Britax or cost $400. We have a Compass 510 - It is great - I got it last year before our trip to Ireland - it's lightweight, very portable (even came with a bag to put it on the plane with) and reasonably priced. I think it was created by two dads who are engineers. I got mine at Elite car seats (online) - I think there is one model that doesn't come with the cover/bag for traveling. They even embroider the name on the bag for $5 (at least that's what it cost me last year). I think dd will have it till she's totally out of her car seats.
Have a great time in Peru!

We also have the Compass. It is relatively light and folds into a bag with a carry strap so it is easy to cart around. We took ours on the plane to Seattle with us and it was great.
Good luck in Peru!

I checked out the website above and there is a seat called the safegaurd go that seems to meet your requirements. You can use the five point up to 60lbs, it folds to fit into an included bag for portability and seems to be much smaller and less bulky than others.

I just knew asking here was the right place!!!
We will check out the ones you all mentioned and hopefully find their 'next' seats (and in the process end up with a set for both cars to make life easier there as well). We are excited for this chance to be somewhere different for a little while, should be fun.........wow, our poor kiddos, they are finally catching onto the english and now we are going to add in Spanish!!! That being said, I think they will do just fine and enjoy it really!! An aside.....know anyone who wants to vacation in CO and needs a cheaper place to stay??? Thats the only downside really.......paying mortgage for an empty house!
