I Have had the same type of questions, but one that was asked not to long ago that really ticked me off was:
How much did you pay for him? (knowing we adopted). I wanted to chew the perosn out, but instead I just said priceless and walked away. I also get why russia? That one always irritates me! I always respond why america? That ussually ends the subject. We don't get the questions some of you do, because our son looks just like my husband. So the only people that ask these questions are the ones we tell, which is even more irritating since these are the people we know.

The touching thing from strangers (and even from acquaintances) is totally not OK with me. And I tell them, in the beginning I just made it clear. My kids are learning what a family is and therefore I would appreciate it if you keep your contact to high fives or a handshake or some kind. Many of our friends made up special handshakes with our kids, which they do to this day. But, if a stranger touches them at all - I firmly say - I am not comfortable with that. I don't care if I'm rude - I don't know them and don't care to.

I get the 'tiny' thing alot too as DS1 is quite small for his age.
But a 96-year-old relative of a relative asked, after meeting both our sons - and having heard their story before, "Do you have any of your OWN children?" I just smiled and said,"Yes, two. That's them over there." |

People who you would expect to stay stupid things usually do! The dear friends who are kind are always extremely understanding.
My dad who is very reserved about his feelings and never shows much emotion, just the other day said "Could you imagine where they would be now? Where they would be living? Who would be taking care of them?" I was really surprised because you could tell he was really feeling concern and emotional about my DC. I never thought this but my 2 Russian beauties have really struck a cord with the quiet- non-emotional types in the family. So I guess what I am trying to say is sometimes you are pleasantly surprised by people! ![]() |
