Intro and question about I600A

Hi we are just starting our process, homestudy paperwork, etc... We already have info about the little girl we plan to adopt, she has mild CP, 6 years old, she was hosted this summer by another family.

We are in GA, my question is, does anyone know if we have to wait for our homestudy to be done to mail in our I600A?

First off, welcome to the boards. You'll be able to get a lot of great info here. As for the I-600...I think you can send it in first...but that is a question for your agency. Different states may have different rules and the rules in Russia may have changed since we went through (2005). Good luck!

yes, i was told not to send in the 1600A until homestudy is completed. you have to attach it to your 1600A!

We, too, were told we had to have the homestudy first. You have to attach a copy.

Each regional USCIS office has different rules to this. Ours in St. Paul will allow you to submit the I-600A and get fingerprinted prior to submitting the homestudy. I would check with one of your local home study agencies. They should be familair with how your regional USCIS office works.

Good luck!

Ours also allowed us to send the form in first and then the homestudy later when it was completed. I'd also check with your agency as to which form to complete; I've been hearing a lot about a I-800 form now because of the Hague conventions. I don't know enough about it to give you specifics, sorry.

We are in Georgia as well and were told to wait until home study could be attached to it. They said it would sit waiting for the home study and nothing would be done with it. Therefore, makes sense to submit it all together. They'll probably just lose it otherwise!

Best wishes!
