Wel,I think it depends on where you sent it. The Cleveland office in January 2008 took about 2 weeks for an appointment and another 3 weeks for processing. It went very fast, but I was wondering if it went fast because we had already adopted once before?

What you need to file at the beginning of the adoption process is the I-600A, not the I-600. You do not file the I-600 until you go to the U.S. Embassy abroad with your child to get his/her visa.

The I-600A is filed with the homestudy report. If you are approved by the USCIS to bring an orphan into the U.S., you will receive a form 797-C or 171-H. (These are later and earlier versions of the same form; some states use one, and some the other.) The U.S. Embassy in your country of choice will also receive a cable, indicating that you have been approved.

The I-600, which you will file overseas after your adoption, allows a second look at your file, but mostly focuses on your child's eligibility for a visa. You will file this form at the Embassy with things like your child's birth certificate and adoption decree.

Hi,

I am in Michigan also. Here's a couple things I have learned.

1) Don't submit i600a to USBCIS in Detroit until you have your homestudy completed to send with. They won't do ANYTHING until they have that.
2) Mine was sent in on 6/28, received on 6/30. My fingerprint appt was 7/22 and I am still waiting.
3) 3 months is the average that they quote. I have also heard 6 weeks after you get fingerprinted.... so I am hopeful EVERYday when I hit the mailbox. LOL

Do you have your homestudy done?

Amy
