I know someone who adopted from there.
Its a small remote area. Very beautiful and hilly. You take the train in from Moscow. The family I know stayed with a host family as hotels were not very available. The child was brought to them, they never went to the orphanage as traveling to the orphanage is difficult. You may want to look at Yahoo groups and see if there is a group for this region. Good luck!

We adopted two bio siblings from CHUVASHIA!!!! Our adoption was finalized in 2005. We never traveled to the orphanages - the children were brought to us. We stayed in a newly renovated hotel which was surprisingly nice on the inside considering how it looked on the outside. The only downside was that court lasted an entire day - yep - the entire day. At that time, I understood that there were 2-3 judges in that region and we got the hardest one. BUT...we survived and you will, too! Let me know if you have questions! Jen |

Chuvasia is one of the regions we are registered in (although we have accepted a referral in another region). Chuvasia is an interesting region because its like a seperate country. The Chuvash don't consider themselves to be Russian (this is a generality, I'm sure some do). The population has a more ethnic twist than most western Russian regions. The drawback with us (and our region) is that as of early May, our agency had not received a single referral from Chuvasia since reaccreditation in December. On the databank, they have many children (BTW, thats a good tool for those waiting). Not to say you won't get a timely referral, its just a data point. There is a Chuvasia Yahoo group you can join.

Yahoo group
There is a yahoo group of this description:
A list for families who have adopted children from Russia with ethnic Tatar, ethnic Bashkir or ethnic Chuvash roots. It's called TBCKids · Tatar Bashkir Chuvash Kids. I think you send an email to TBCKids-subscribe@yahoogroups.com to subscribe. It's not a very active list (usually no activity at all for months), but there are some photos (there used to be some but don't appear to be now, sorry) and some helpful people if you have a specific question. Best wishes! My sweetie came from Saratov, RU, near the border with Kazakhstan, and I had been told she may be part Tatar (dark hair, dark eyes, olive skin).
