Since I am such a pround momma...some of you may have seen this elsewhere...(x-posted in other words!.) Here are a couple of shots of DS from his pre-K graduation earlier this month...I am so proud of him! This was from his private pre-K class where he goes after his sn pre-K. The director was so acommodating and the kids were all thrilled that DS was joining them. They allowed DS and another lil guy to come and sit with us for parts of the ceremony (saved us and the other family front row seats) and allowed DH to go to the practice to help prepare DS (the only parent allowed in.) The one picture of the kids backs was while he was watching his friends on stage...I just love it! You'll notice him with his hand in his pocket in the one picture...one of his ways of coping since he gets 'handsy' when dysregulated...and this was the 'perfect storm' for dysregulation. He was so proud of himself...and so were we!!! This is such a huge step for him...proof that his hard work is really paying off. We also recently changed churches and had DS dedicated. This church has really helped us get through so much and we are so happy we have found it. The dedication was the same week as his pre-K graduation... And I don't have these pictures downloaded and fixed yet...but he also had an 'Almost 5th ' birthday party for his friends in his sn pre-k since he is the only one moving onto sn K next year and he has a summer birthday. Most of the rest of them are sticking around for another year in the program or going to a typical pre-k. It was a very busy week with a very jealous big sis...but that's another thread. LOL. The picture after the dedication is not so great but it has all 4 of us and since a friend was taking the picture she really didn't know how to use my camera. The before one is much better...but the before ones with DD...ummm she was not happy in a single one. Did I mention she was jealous?! Thanks so much for letting me share...there were days I never thought we would come this far! I love this kiddo so much...and his big sis too!

He's getting to be such a big boy.
Are you happy with his Kindergarten for next year? Is it a sn school, or a reg. ed school with sn class? I'll be curious to see how that goes for A. Claire is getting baptized this weekend, at age 5 1/2, because we just finalized her adoption last Thursday. We should have had a joint party!

Jessi~
Thanks...I love that picture as well! Mommy~ Thanks, yes it is amaziong how well he is progressing! Katrina~ Yes he is getting bigger...well taller...still a super skinny guy though. His sn K will be through the school district...we are very lucky that our 'home' elementary school is great. Our district is huge and the quality of the schools varies greatly. He will be in a self contained sn classroom setting...multi-age K/1. It is called a VE class (varying exceptionalities) and it is for the higher functioning kids who are not either profoundly impacted or ready for a typical classroom setting...the eventual goal is to transition into a typical classroom. It is much smaller and there will be at least one room aide...in fact it is very similiar to his pre-K program. His teacher has been transitioning him for over a month already...he knows who his teacher is and they speak almost daily (even if it is just hello.) I am thrilled with the pre-K program...it is language based and they do tons of sensory work...so perfect for him. That being said...it is not perfect and we are now getting private OT and ST (we are #1 on the wait list for ST.) He just gets ST twice a week at school...not OT which is crazy and I will be fighting for it to be added into his IEP is August. His teacher is very strict and sometimes I disagree with her...but I also tend to baby him too much...and DS loves her and the class so I guess he's OK with it. She really pushes them... So long winded answer is yes I am happy with our public school experience but I know we are very lucky and probably would have a different answer if our 'home' elementary school was different. (The teachers have to agree to work at this particular school...and there is some things they must vote on to include in the contract...they work longer and harder here...and deal with highly involved parents.) Congrats on Clair's finalization and Baptism...too bad we are so far apart...a joint party would be great. Karen |
