I cannot believe DS is getting this old!! But this summer he is going to go to the YMCA!! He will be 6 May 1st (our 30th wedding anniversary)
During spring break he attened YMCA for a "trial" week. Believe it or not he matured alot during that week. He was responsible for undressing himself and changing into and out of his swim suit alone. He had to make some decisions on his own, and they took a field trip every day either bowling, skating, movies or a park - and of course hotdogs, pizza and nacho's! DS can also take swim lessons in the morning before camp starts for the day. He is so excited to attend that I've enrolled him in the "Y" for a weather day that the school is closed this month. He will go bowling and eat pizza that day. It will cost me as much to enroll him that day as I will make to work - but if he can learn and grow - I am all for it! He has no siblings to play with at home and this is a great "out" for him. Of course, this being a smaller town, I have known the camp director for 15 years so I am not hesitant about his safety concerns. Have any of you had any positive experiences like this in YMCA or a summer camp program? Susan |

Our oldest went to sleep away summer camp for three years - ages 7-9. It was a wonderful experience for all of us. He learned so much and also, came home very thankful to have a big bed and Mom and Dad there. Unfortunately, we can't afford to do that camp with all three kids home. But, I'm sure glad your DS has a wonderful time!!!

Wow Susan! This sounds great! We are waiting to be called by the Y for soccer program Mas is only 4 so I do not think he can participate until he is a bit older. I went to camp myself as a child and really benefited from it. Hope he has a blast!

My DS attends the YMCA Early Learing Center for daycare and just loves it. They do really great things with the kids there, and he has learned so much. He also is able to take swimming lessons there - they come and get him from class then take him back when he is finished. He participated in Bitty Soccer for 3 & 4 yearl olds last fall. All in all I have nothing but good things to say about the YMCA and our experiences there.
