Costs/financial aspects

We just completed a domestic adoption here in U.S. We want to adopt again in a few years but would like an older child/toddler age female.

Can you tell me what kind of cost we would be looking at in general?

Thanks and blessings, Michelle

Hi! Congratulations on your new son!

We completed our adoption last summer. For us, the travel costs really added up, so our total cost was around $45k. I'd say around $35-$50k is average for Russia. A lot of it depends on which region you get assigned to, what season you travel in, and if the 10 day wait after court is waived. We traveled to Vladivostok in the summer (expensive), and our 10 day wait wasn't waived, so our 2nd trip was almost 4 weeks.

Hope that helps!

I think MsDaisyof TX is right on. Around 40-45K total seems to be the average.

We adopted in Fall 06. We had the ten days waived. We spent about $35-40K back then. Best of luck. Sometimes I feel it's a shame the costs incurred by adoptive parents, when these kids really need homes badly.

2004 was 31k and 2006 was 35k
We were lucky that for both adoptions trips were short, so we incurred less travel expenses.
in 2006 our trips were a little longer and we had to fly to region, but we traveled in fall and winter so fares were cheaper than in 2004 when we traveled in summer.

I woul decho what others have said but encourag eyou to plan for an additional 5-10 K on hand for just in case money....
Just in case a sibling is identified.... and you have the opportunity to bring two home instead of just one

Just in case you have a bunch of paperwork to re-do or a home study to update etc...

Congrats on the new bundle! What a doll baby!

Can you tell us what it cost to adopt domestically?

Older kids

If you adopt a child over age 2, she will be considered a toddler, and some agencies will cut the fees for an "older" child. I adopted two older children, and both my adoptions were less than $25K, even with travel expenses added in.

I also used Delta buddy passes on my overseas flights, stayed at a hotel that included meals, shopped for bargain gifts for people in-country, etc.

If you are careful, you don't have to spend a fortune.

Good luck!
Dee

ddahl: Our total cost with homestudy and everything for domestic was around $20k, including travel and ICPC.

Thanks for all the replies...guess I will have to stick more money back!

Blessings, Michelle

We completed our adoption in 2005 with a cost of around $40K. This included all travel, hotels, food and gifts.
