Talking Changing people's perceptions...

So for years, when people have said about any of my kids, "They are so lucky", I've gently let them know that we are the lucky ones. We've all done this I think.

When Claire came home, it started up again, mainly because she had special needs that you could see right away. "How lucky she is that you found her" and things like that. I would, again, tell them that we are so lucky to be her parents, so on and so forth.

Well, it's starting to sink in. My neighbor was talking to me on the phone, and she always talks about how much she enjoys talking to my kids in the bus stop. She comes to see us when we're playing in the yard and that sort of thing. Anyway, she started her sentence with "I look at you with your kids over there"... and I kind of sighed inwardly, thinking she was going to say it, when she said, "and I think how lucky you and PJ are with your kids" And she meant it-it wasn't just to avoid me saying what I say.

Then I realized-it's been months since anyone has said anything but how lucky the kids are! We're chaging people's perceptions, finally, and they are realizing how lucky dh and I consider ourselves.
