The agency we used for both our adoptions - 98 and 04 - I hear, has since gone out of business. We heard from our program coordinator here on the U.S. side once after No. 1, but unless they were planning a reunion or lost our PPR, we didn't hear from them at all. Which, frankly, is fine with me. No dis to them, but we paid them for a service, they completed that service, end of story.

My agency is one of the big ones that deals with Russia. I was pretty disappointed in their post adoption treatment. Just verifies to me that they are a business.
They only called the week we arrived home from Russia. After that we've never heard.
I called a few months ago to see if there is any chance that my child has a new bio sibling in the system. The social worker took down my information. She never gave me the courtesy of a callback. I had to call her, and she was busy and didnt talk to me firsthand or call me back, I only spoke to some other agency person.
I havent been impressed.

Our agency has never called to follow up with us. Although they are always very responsive & helpful if we call them with a question or issue.

Our agency does call us and is one of the reasons why we used them again for our second adoption.

They called us a couple of days after we were home to see how things were going and called about a month later too. They also called us to remind us of the post placement report due and to see how things are going. We also get a call during the summer to invite us to their annual get together.

We used the same adoption agency for both adoptions in 1999 and 2006. We did lose contact with them for a couple of years due to us moving and forgeting to give them our new phone number. However when we called them saying we were ready to adopt again they knew who we were and wondered what happen to us.

We do send Christmas cards to them most Christmas's with pictures of the boys. We realized how important it was to continue to send pictures after the post placement reports are done after we visited our first son's baby house when we were adopting our second son. The director of our first son's baby house showed us the pictures that we sent to our agency. They sent them to her to show her how well he is doing. So from now on we send a photo to our agency and then extras for them to distribute to the baby house's. We got a phone call a few weeks ago saying thank you for the pictures and the director of the orphange from my first son loved the pictures of the boys.

We used the same agency as Jodi for her DS's adoption and had the same experience - just one phone call once we got home. And in that phone call I told them about the problems we were having, and all the problems DD was having, and then I never heard from them again.

Totally irresponsible.

Even though I truly do like the agency that I used, they did NOTHING.... no calls, letters, pre-adoption education, etc. Happy to say that NOW, they have a different system set up! An education program, local contacts, etc. This was a result of several families that adopted at the time I did (Dec. 40 and Jan.05) that had ALOT of difficulties when they brought their older children home. I, thankfully did not, but several others did, and some where very bad situations. At least now, they have corrected this, and now new PAP's are getting alot more information

For our first adoption, I think we must have used the same agency as jennamom. When we arrived home from our adoption trip, there was a message from the agency owner's mom hoping everything was going well and telling us to call if we need anything. We never spoke to anyone in person.

They did, however, ask us to submit a written report every month for the first year (in addition to PPRs) telling them how things were going, what milestones the child hit, if there were any concerns, etc. We never had any major concerns, but nobody ever called to follow up either.

For our second adoption (different agency), the agency called twice in the first month home, then once a month for the first six months. It was probably a 20+ minute call each time. They also sent two packets of articles/information that were helpful. (What to expect once home, suggestions for attachment-promoting activities, etc.)
