adoption horror stories
I know the particular stories on the new show will have nothing to do with Russia, but we as adoptive parents have all been there. Putting our total faith in others.
Tonight on Dateline NBC, from 7-9, NBC follows and uncovers some very unscrupulous people. It should be very interesting, as well as heartbreaking, to see what others have gone through. I think that the adoptions involved are all in Guatemala. |

I beleive it's a re-run. It's totally one sided. I just hate the fact that it just proves that one bad apple in the bunch.....
Read all the great law abiding adotion stories here. I'm not saying that once home the kids have special needs I'm saying that the means of getting the kids here where and are all legal. That's TV for ya.

I had no idea if it had been on before or not. I saw it advertised, and thought that others might be interested in it.

As one of the many families caught up in the Guatemala scams, I can assure you that this story is not a repeat and it is not just 1 or 2 individuals. Many families have lost thousands of dollars in Guatemala adoptions, which is why they are shut down. This is not a case of a "few bad apples". There are many children in Guatemala that need homes, but some children where stolen from their families for money. I don't want to see Guatemalan adoptions closed permanently, but the system needs fixed to protect the children and families in process. My son (8 adopted from Russia at age 4) and I spent a week with a little boy in Guatemala that was taken from his family. My son loved the boy he thought would be his brother. It was a difficult experience for me and my son.
On a brighter note, I am now returning to Russia to adopt a 7 year old boy. |

I saw it and I think it was a pretty accurate picture of what happens in Guatemala. Even with the best agency all IA is an emotional and financial risk. My heart breaks for the families that have lost their money and their hearts.
