Oh yeah, my daughter was born the wek we moved back to Texas, which was huge since we were close to our agency, close to family and close to Scottish Rite Hospital which is a great place that has provided all her surgeries and prosthetics for free.

When we started the process we asked our good friends wife who is Russian for some names that were Russian but also common in America. She gave us several names but the one we picked out as liking was the name Marina. Well when we went to the agency to pick out our child and found out one of the girls videos we were going to see was already named Marina then we knew it was a sign from above!!!

DD was not our first referral. We had wanted to accept our first referral but the day we found out that we had to decline was also the day that DD was born.
We received DD's referral 1 year to the day from deciding to adopt. We completed her adoption 1 day shy of a year later.
DD was also conceived the same time as the baby I miscarried. They were due the same day but DD was overdue.

Great thread!

We have several of these in our Poland adoption:

Our daughter was born in October 2002, exactly when when my husband and I met.

Our son's birthday is one day before my younger sister's (different year). They have many similarities, they are both left-handed, sensitive, and very good at art.

Our kids are half Ukrainian, and I am also part Ukrainian and mostly Polish. This is something that we did not put in our application and that was a complete coincidence and surprise (we only found this out after we accepted referral).

The funny fact is that before we got the referral, we talked about how (if we got a girl referral), we are going to avoid all the "princess" stuff etc. So, guess what our daughter's name was? (HINT: the real-life famous princess who died in a car accident 10 yrs ago). The name is actually quite rare in Poland.

Our was born on his paternal great grandfather's birthday and two days after his maternal great grandfather died. We also received his referral on the one year anniversary of his maternal great grandfather's death, so it added some great joy in an otherwise sad day.

Funny Coincidences

Great thread!

My daughter's adoption hearing date was November 14 - my father's birthday.

My son was born 1 week after my father died in 1996. His adoption hearing date was April 3rd - my maternal grandparents' wedding anniversary.

I don't think there are any real coincidences. I think we get the children we are meant to parent.

My DS was born on my 39th bday.

He entered the baby home about the same time as I made the decision to adopt.

I received his referral 3 days after his first and my 40th bday.

I put my sons birthday into a "conception Calculator" and it is the exact day and year my husband and I got married.

We decided to adopt from Russia in July, the month my son was born. I remember my DH saying to me one day that our baby could already be born or was about to be born. He was right.

Also, on our second trip to Russia, the room we were assigned at the Marriott when we picked up our son was 717 - Our son was born July 17th!!! And I forgot to get a picture of the room number!!! I would have loved that for the scrap book. But I do have the room receipt but its in Russian.

Great Thread.

Thanks.

Great thread!!

As many of you may recall, DD was not our first referral, or even the first child we met and accepted. We had a long, difficult process....

I have also shared in the past that we were able to pay for the adoption with the money my mom left me. She died the month before we signed with our agency. From the beginning, we planned to name DD Alayna, after my mom.

So, after more than two years of waiting, lost referrals, etc. we traveled to meet a child we had waited over a year to see. We knew within minutes that she was not our daughter and had to make the difficult decision to release our hold on her after thinking she was ours for over a year. The coordinator said it was okay, there was another child that was actually on hold for us.

The next day we went back to the same orphanage and talked with the doctor. They have us all the information and we were ready to meet her. I knew she was 10 months old, but didn't have the actual birthday. I asked and was told it was May 29th - the day before my mom's! Then I asked her name. Our coordinator said "The child's name is Elena". I looked at DH and burst into tears.

Astrakhan was very fast between trips at that time - usually around 3-4 weeks.. We waited 5 months! However, court ended up being the anniversary of the day my mom died. I can just see my mom up there, making sure that the day was no longer a sad memory of her passing - but rather a happy Gotcha day!

I don't believe they are coincidences - but signs that she was meant to be ours!

Besides the number #4 coming up alot in various ways, there are other interesting dates.

Before making our decision, let alone even talking about it, we were looking to upgrade to a 40 ft cruiser.

Our Twins were born while we were in Florida @ Crab Island. Each weighed 4 lbs 4 ozs. At this point, we’d not talked about, nor the idea of Adoption.

Our Twins would have shared their older Twin Cousins’ Birthday. This was her original due date, but as things don’t always go as planned, she went into labor 4 days earlier.

Our Twins date of Registry for Adoption: July 4 (Independence Day). We were in Florida watching the Fireworks.

We made the decision and started the paperwork 1 month later.

We received “the call” on Christmas Eve, 2003, of 6 mo old Twins.

In 2004:

We accepted our 2nd referral, of the Twins, on my Birthday Weekend

We flew to Russia on DH’s Birthday

We spent Valentine’s Day 14 of February, in Red Square, Moscow Russia

We saw for the first time in person, now 8 mo old Twins

We were in court on DH’s SIL Birthdate (Parents to the Older Twin Cousins)

We received the Boys US Citizenship Papers datemarked on DH’s Sisters’ Birthday

-We are a family of 4 for 4 yrs, this year.
-4 of the 5 cousins are Fraternal Twin Boys. They have birthdays 4 days apart.
-The Boys are 4.5 yrs old.

Fun thread! Coincidence? Perhaps!

My DD, who was a blind referral, shares the same birthday as my best friend (since childhood)! When I saw that on those initial papers, I knew there was NO question! (Also, her son was born on my mother's birthday...!)

Delaney has the same birthday as her Grandma Hovey and my cousin Anthony.

She went to the Baby House the same week I decided to adopt.

Court was on the same day as one of my best friends who a referecne for my homestudy.

Okay, not numbers, but she likes to cuddle up with her blankets like I do, she has the same sinus and allergy problems as me, and I have yet to find a cheese she not like...just like me! Oh...and we cannot forget how much we both love shoes!

When we started the adoption process in Russia I started looking at Russian girl names. I picked Karina. My husband was luke warm to it. So we played the name game.

My boys ended up naming her Sadie and it stuck.

We changed to Kaz, still planning to adopt a Russian baby.

Before we left for our trip I said to my husband, what if her name is Karina? He blew me off, laughing say, what are the chances of that.

In Kaz in walks the dr with a baby. I asked what her name was. When the translator told us Karina I just looked at my husband and I thought his eyes were going to pop out.

Karina is now one of her middle names.

Well, this isnt really anything "fun" but its true....

my DH's mother had a lot of difficulty and mental illness and she had basically shut everyone out of her life. She apparently took her own life and was not discovered for about three months... but we discovered it on June 26 of 2000 and we brought our boys home June 26 2004.

June 26 is both a happy day and a kind of bittersweet day to our family.
