Russia in your Holidays?

How to you add a little Russia to your christmas or other holidays?
I know some talked aobut St.Nicolas day. What else do you do?
My daughter has some ornaments I got her in Russia that she puts on the tree every year.
This year we are adding a new tradition. We are going to have an international feast for our family (the ones who live in our house) We have Tamales because my neices are half mexican for example. We will have Latkas for my Jewish father's family, Polish sausage and Pirogi for my Polish son, etc. We ordered some drinks from a Russian food mail order company, so we have Russian soft drinks and cookiess and chocolate eggs.

Our tree has some Russian ornaments on it...my MIL lives near a Russian gift shop that imports all sorts of items from Russia so she adds to the collection. We also leave the tree up until after Russian Christmas. Maybe, just maybe I will be brave and cook something Russian on January 7th?!

I also bought some ornaments in Russia and Delaney put them on the tree and I bought a snow globe with St. Basils inside, she loves it. She picks it up and says it's snowing in Russia. This is just our second Christmas and she was just 22 months last year, but this year I am going to try out this recipe courtesy of Jeana, (kizibits), Alivia's Mom ~

Sirniki (Individual Fried Cheesecakes)

1 pound Friendship Farmer's Cheese
2 large egg yolks
1 ½ tbsp sour cream
1/3 c. flour
2 tbsp. uncooked cream of wheat (don't use instant!!!!)
4 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp vanilla flavoring
¼ tsp salt
4 tbsp unsalted butter
Sour cream
Your favorite fruit preserves

Press farmer's cheese through a fine sieve. Mix in a large bowl with
beaten egg yolks, sour cream, flour, cream of wheat, sugar and salt.
Cover and refrigerate overnight.

The next morning, make 12 round, flat patties out of mixture. Dust
lightly on both sides with flour. Melt butter in large non-stick
frying pan over medium heat. Fry patties until golden brown on both
sides.

Serve hot with sour cream and preserves.

(I've also seen recipes where they add raisins or finely chopped
nuts to the mixture.)

We have Russian ornaments on our tree - some we bought there and some we added these past 3 years. Last year DH bought me the cutest nutcracker. He's a Russian Santa holding a platter with onion churches and a wind up music box in his sack that plays "Lara's Song". It was my favorite gift! (well, technically he bought it for Big Boy, but its really mine! )
