I can't help you really, but there is a group on yahoo that focuses on finding birth parents, I will pm you the name of the group (not sure if I can post it here). But they may have some good information for you.

There have actually been a few threads recently about adoptive parents who have found their children's first parents or other family members... if you search the forum you should find a few threads on it. I know Mary Kirkpatrick is another resource people have used so you may want to search on her name here for info too...
Edited to change name...

Caution
You have to be a bit wary. I contacted a "finder" who wanted $2500 to find my daughter's birth family. THat was way out of my league financially, plus I just had a bad gut feeling.. I would be very cautious.
Good luck, though. Dee

Hi and welcome! There are many groups and people who do this in Russia. I have heard good things about "Mary". If you google "Russia birth family search" I think you'll get a lot of leads. I have heard that many of the searchers are very good at locating birth families, even with just a name and ancient address! Also, if you let us know which part of Russia you were adopted from, someone might have a contact in the area. For example, I know someone who does this in Vladivostok.
The searcher will generally ask you specific questions about the type of contact you are interested in: Just some basic information, medical info., siblings, picture exchange, correspondance, or even set up a meeting. If you want, you can choose to remain anonymous as well. They will locate and approach your birth family to determine if they are receptive to providing info. etc. Best wishes to you. I know either one of my kids may want to do this in the future. As long as I know they still love me, I'll be totally supportive! Good luck!!

There were a few families on the FRUA board that used Mary or other searchers and were able to find information on their first families. You may want to look there as well.

I used Tony. You need to get references before trusting anyone. IF they make garantees that is a big red flag. Also it's a good idea to keep some small bit of info you may have back so you can verify what they found is true. I guess I am just suspicious at heart LOL.

We used Tony Carruthers and found his service impeccable. He has a Yahoo! Group message board where you can connect with him and others who have searched or are thinking of searching.
It cost us about $1000 which seemed reasonable for travel and accomodations for his team. We got a lot of photos, a video and a transcript. He tries to wait until he has enough folks searching in a particular area to amoratize the costs. He will tell you upfront whether he thinks he can get a successful outcome for you based on the information he has. Good luck |

We recently used Mary to find both our sons birthfamilies (two different regions), we were successful and very happy we did this.
We shared the travel costs with other families and then you don't pay a fee unless the search is successful (for example, for the one region we paid 250 for travel costs and then found out our search was successful and paid 350-we got interview report, questions answered and photographs). For our other son it was done by phone, so that was significantly less. It is definitely a possibility that you will find your birthparents! Best wishes and feel free to pm me if you would like additional information
