Alert!!south Florida Get Together Group-emergency!!!

Hi South Florida group! I need to let you all know that DS was in the hospital today with difficulty breathing. He had to have a nebulizer treatment with Albuterol and a steroid shot as well as two chest X-rays.

He was diagnosed with croup. I am not sure if anyones child was sick at the get together but the ER doctor said its a virus and it can have a 48 hour + incubation period. He was released at 6 this evening and is making a lot of progress. The steroids helped the breathing a lot.

Not sure of the origination of the virus. Noone in DS class is currently sick and he has not interacted with anyone except the group in a week.

Symptoms can include a high fever and a rattle sound in the chest accompanied by a cough that sounds a bit like a dry bark.

Sorry to be the bearer of this news but in the spirit of a full blown mommy panic, I need to let you all know. If you suspect a cold or cough, don't wait. DS left fit as a fiddle for school at 8 a.m. and by 11:45 he was going down in flames and having difficulty breathing. Although they did a pulse Oxygen level and it was within normal range likely because we caught it quickly.

DS is reasting now and we are praying for an easy night. It was terrifying to see him in this condition.

Thanks!

Oh no! Thanks for letting us know! My kids are fine even though I am a bit paranoid because of this staph virus (with one of my former colleagues being diagnosed with it...). I worried about Elisa who has been unusally cranky. But I don't hear her cough. Well, let's hope for a good night for Mason. Isn't it scary when our wild boys become suddenly so weak and lethargic? Give Mason a big hug from me and his buddy!

Glad he is doing better. Alex earned himself a trip to the ER this summer with croup...and a fever of 105.8! It is so scary...but the recovery is pretty quick!

Becky~
Alex got a virus first...and actually coughed (croupy) for the first time when we walked into the ER...it was so odd.
