Help - Gotcha Day coming soon
We are about a month away from our first "Gotcha Day". We are so excited about it but don't know how to celebrate it. I would like some ideas for something that we can do this year and repeat every year from now on as a tradition. I think we would like it to be just the 4 of us in our immediate family.
I'd like to hear some ideas of what others did. Something very special that he will treasure in years to come. On a different note......last night Alex and I (daddy) played with his Russian wooden building blocks (we bought off Ebay a while back). Alex is 2 and absolutely enjoyed them. They have the "onion shaped" blocks that look like the tops of many Russian buildings. It was a lot of fun. I hope this becomes one of our favorite toys for playtime. Even at 2, he was amazing at stacking and not knocking them over. Once again, thanks for any ideas for Gotcha Day. Rex

Some people choose a fovorite restaraunt and go there every year. I know some watch thier videos of the the trip and such. You have to decide how big or small you want to make it. Some people make it like a second birthday with gifts and all. We don't because we have four kids, two bio and two adopted (at different times). For us it's kind of low key, we usually go out to dinner as a family saying it's a day to celebrated. Some people also choose that day to get new pictures made.

We just had ours, you can my thread about it...but Delaney really liked making her heart shaped Adoption Day Cake! We listened to our hearts say "Luv you" and I told her the cake said that too, and she kept saying "luv you cake, luv you Mommy!" I mostly just wanted to spend the day with her. Some people have made Russians recipes.
One thing I did while in Russia was buy several gifts and I gave one of the Russians gifts. I plan to give her one of those every year. But I think the cake is going to be a keeper, heck, I paid 10 bucks for the stupid heart shaped pan!! Enjoy your time with your child!!

We don't do gifts for "gotcha day". We go to our favorite restaurant, usually make a cake or cookies and we look through our photo books and talk about meeting them, traveling home with them, etc. Each child has their own favorite pieces of their story.
We do use the term "gotcha day" and not family day as we plan on bringing home another child who will have a different day to celebrate then her siblings who came home together.

We celebrated our first Sisters' Day in May - big fun! I had each of our girls write down three things they liked about each other and read them aloud - blogged it here: The Woodworth Family in Beautiful San Antonio TX
Very meaningful for our family. Becky The Woodworth Family in Beautiful San Antonio TX |
