Amanda,

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Moscow. It is relatively new and a GREAT hotel. I know someone who stayed there recently so it is definitely open.

Also, the Renaissance is open. I stayed there one night. Was sick as a dog, but it was heavenly after the primitive digs we stayed at in region.

Travel dates yet???

Katie

The PResident
Marriott Grand
Radisson Slavenskaya (english movie theatre is in their building)

The Arbat (great location!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Marriott Tverskaya

These are the usuals that most PAPs stay at

If you are staying at the marriotts - their adoption rate code is A23 (you can make the reservations online and use this code) It helped us go from $530 per night at the Grand to $235 whew!!!!

I too stayed at the Renaissance, and LOVED it! I stayed there a total of 19 days (in two trips). Using the adoption rate code is essential for the better rates. No complaints about the hotel at all. Even the grave shift front dest personnel never minded opening up the Business office (where you can email from), at any hour of the morning (i.e. 3AM or 4:30 AM RU Time) for me. Granted eating there was on the expensive side, but well worth it when I got back late from the orphanage (an almost 4 hour one way car ride), and just wanted room service and the bed

Many others have stayed at the Marriotts with the same praises, and within walking distance of many sites. Also, I have had friends rent apartments and be extremely happy with the freedom, kitchenettes, etc. I traveled by myself both trips, so I really wanted to feel more secure in a Westernized Hotel with some english being spoken. If I where to go back now, I would rent an apartment.

Hi Amanda!
We stayed at the Marriot Courtyard on the return from our region on trip 1. The beds were the hardest I have ever felt in my LIFE! We SWORE they just had 2 boxsprings..and actually that is what it looked like too. They said they were all teh same..maybe they have been broken in by now.
We were only gonna be there 2 nights, but after the 1st night we trucked up to the Marriot Grand, luggage and all (what a sight that was!) and had a wonderful night.

On trip 2 we stayed in a beautiful apt and it was awesome AWESOME and a whole lot cheaper than the hotels. I would be glad to share info if you need it.

I was actually thinking about you today..any news are you just getting your ducks in a row for when you get that call?? If you have not gotten it yet, I hope it is very VERY soon!

summer hotel rates in moscow are astronomical. not sure when they will go down again. we opted for an apartment thru peace travel. saved us a ton of money.

Hi..... we are staying at the Marriot Courtyard for our 2nd trip & were able to stay using points by enrolling in the Marriot Visa card... you get one free night & 20,000 points. It takes a few weeks to get the points & free night but if you have time before travelign I would strongly recommend it since the rates are so high in Moscow now. My husband & I each got our own card. Also you can buy Marriot Points which is cheaper than paying for the room the regular way

On our trips through Moscow to region, we stayed at the Marriot Rennassance.
Just a little hint, ask to upgrade to the VIP floor. Free drinks for the children and coffee for adults all day long. Free continental breakfast, and free appetizers in the afternoon. Floor is also locked, so the children can roam the floor, and not get down the stairs or the elevator. Also, a money exchange inside the hotel, with no limit as to how much they will exchange, and at least 3 restaurants/cafes onsight. Although the VIP floor will cost a little more money, the free nourishment, and the fruit drinks and water available 24 hours a day, more than made up for the additional cost.

I've stayed at the Novotel at the airport (a good choice if you are travelling on to the region the following day) - you can arrange to pick up transit coupons to make the price much lower.

The Marriott Grand was nice with a good location, but they tried to put me in a room that was 650.00 per night!! It was a longish but doable walk to the Kremlin, red square etc.

My favorite - The Arbat Hotel. Caters to international businessmen. Reasonable rates, super location, suites available at the same rate as regular rooms at other hotels, great breakfast buffet, secure... Be sure to ask for a rennovated room or a suite.

I have heard raves about apartment rentals if your stay will be more than a few days.

Oh yeah... And see if you can make your own reservation rather than going through your agency. Price what you found versus the rate they can provide. In many cases you will do better on your own because some agencies get a "kickback" from certain hotels.

Thank you to everyone that replied. We arent traveling yet, but I just want to be ready

I have a question, if you stay at the Marriott how many points is it for a night...or does it just make the room cheaper? I just dont know how the point system works. Also if you use points can you also not use the adoption code A23?

Also cathvash is there a website for the Arabat Hotel?

The points allow you to stay for free & it is based on which Marriot you stay at & how many nights. For 3 nights at the Marriot Courtyard it was 41,000 points. You first have to sign up for the Marriot Rewards which is free. The website has all the info on it

Also, don't forget documentation that your are adopting when using the adoption rate at the hotel. When we checked into the marriot courtyard they wanted "proof" and the documents we had were not acceptable to them (letter from MOE with referral info and some other stuff we had). I can't remember exactly what they wanted, but we had to call our agency and get them to fax it to the hotel..argh..never heard of anyone else having that problem but be prepared.
