Not sure where to turn about 171

Our 171-H expires 7/12/07. I hadn't sent in the new I-600A, and then we got THE CALL. In two days we got the homestudy updated, docs together and sent it in. It was received 5/30/07 in the OKC office.

We have been told if we don't get the new 171-H in the next week or so, our chances of a July courtdate are gone, and there probably aren't any courtdates being scheduled in early August. There are a lot of complications with our sons particular case, and if we have to wait past August, we may have some issues getting this completed AT ALL.

So, we asked our congressman to help. They inquired, and the response they got was very ugly. Basically said all that they've had a lot of problems with Russian adoption cases lately and, I quote, "It appears they will need to probably get a new court date scheduled after they receive their I-171H."

I am more devastated today than I have ever been during this past two years. I will be contacting our congressman again today to ask them to push higher up and harder, but if the processor has this attitude, is it really going to help?

I never in my wildest dreams thought it would be the US govt that would take my adoption off the track. I know that my tardiness in filing is the cause, but I also know I read of expedited cases all the time.

Sorry this is so long, I just don't know where to turn...

Call your congressman and senator. If they can't get through perhaps they can at least get you the number of the person who handles the case. That is what happened in our Russian adoption, and then my husband called every day, always very polite, and asked about it. (He stayed very polite because he figured this person had the option of loosing the paperwork if he was not) He feels like they approved us just to get him to quit calling.

we had the same thing happen. we got our congressman involved but it didn't help. it took five months to get ours processed.

i know other people who have gotten their congressmen involved and it helped. so i would try.

i am already praying for you that it will arrive in time.

hang in.

I am SO SORRY Robin. This is unbelievable.

I think Lorraine has to be right - keep calling until they can't stand you anymore!

I also just found this website, describing an email address where you can inquire specifically about your case. Couldn't hurt to try that as well.

Keep us updated! I'll be praying for you.

Thanks everyone, I still just can't believe this. I've sent our congressmen more details, so they are still trying.

Does your agency have a contact at USCIS?

When we were updating ours we were in the same situation, we just got home from trip #1 and had to send in the paperwork and hope to get it processed before the court date (7 weeks later). Our agency called and begged for it to be processed asap-they did and we had it in our hands in about 2 weeks. I would ask your agency to get involved too, if possible.

Good luck to you, I know you don't need this stress now!

Can yo go to the office in person with photo of your son, let them physically see who you are fighting for?

I second the advise about seeing if there is anything your agency can do. Our case worker had a contact in the local office and actually asked us not to contact them directly as she had good relations with them.

I posted info on checking on your process using a new registration number USCIS New Processing Dates Reporting. I'm guessing that you are doing this.

If they truely seem to be drawing this out, maybe you should consider getting a lawyer to communicate with them... I know it costs, but if it's a matter of losing your son... the cost would be worth it.

Please take care and keep us posted!

Thanks everone.

I can't find an application receipt #, anyone know where it is? The letter nor the receipt has a 13 digit # on it.

We will be hiring an attorney on Monday if the letter our agency writes doesn't get a response.

It ends with "However, without this exception being granted this adoption is at high risk, the parents without a child and most importantly the child without a forever family"

Can someone really look at that and not do something?????

One other thing I would include...attached to the letter is a picture or two of your little guy.

I will be praying for good news for you.

I don't know how your state works, but I had this same thing happen. We were finally being invited to Kaz and my new approval wasn't here. I called the main INS number on line and asked someone for help. She told me to go online and request a face to face interview(that would have meant driving 5 hours one way, but I was desperate). Anyway, she said take all your information and a letter from my agency saying we were getting ready to travel and they could possibly expidite it.

I scheduled an appointment, called and left messages on any machine I could get at the Jacksonville office and e-mailed the local contact person at that office, explaining my situation and begging for help. It actually worked. So press on. Beg, plead, barter!

When I was getting No where initially I felt the same way you did, that after everything it was my country that was holding me up. Wishing you the best of luck!!
