Timing on passports?

We applied for Julia's passport 11 weeks ago today. Today I submitted an inquiry online via https://passportstatus.state.gov/opss/OPSS_Status_i.asp

I have no confidence in the "10 - 12 weeks" time frame. Anybody had an recent experience in passport processing time?

I know someone who applied in February (not sure what part) but still did not have them last week. If you need it by a certain day you may want to try contacting them or your congress person to see if they could help. I do know others that have had to go that route. Good luck.

I read in the paper in the last few weeks that due to the new law that everyone must have a passport even to go to Mexico or Canada that there is a backlog and to expect to wait longer than normal for passport processing.

applied for dd in Jan. thought there would be a problem since we changed her social security # this year, but no, got it in 5 weeks. Applied for ds on Feb 28..just got it today. Dh's renewal came in 2 weeks last Oct. Children's passports aren't processed as renewals even if they are. Long time to hold onto a birth certificate, I think.

I'm glad I did the expedited service - I just renewed mine and got it back exactly 2 weeks. We did the expedited service for DD also (last year) and got it in 2 weeks...

The postal person who delivered mine had been waiting 9 weeks and when she checked with her contacts she was told they were running at about 10 weeks. This was just in the last few weeks...so I hope you get it back soon!

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but be well warned that it is taking well over 10-12 weeks, even with "expedited". We paid expedited for both kids 3 months ago, got biological child's back in 3 weeks. After about 10 hours on hold with the national call center with nonsensical and conflictinganswers each time, two trips to the passport agency (yes, 2!), and several phone calls from our Senator's office they FOUND his ORIGINAL RUSSIAN ADOPTION paperwork! Hadn't even processed it!! This was just a few weeks ago . . . it had been about 12 weeks.

My best piece of advice would be to start calling your legislative reps. now. That's the only way we were ever able to get back our child's irreplaceable adoption paperwork . . . never mind the passport.

My other piece of advice would be to make an appointment at your agency, or just go down there uninvited with another application, 2 photos, the COC, and your checkbook. That's what we did to actually get the passport itself.

A friend of mine who is waiting for her passport (ordered 11 weeks ago) was told that processing is now taking about 15 weeks. This was from her congressman's office when she asked if they could help.

Hi Becky.... This was just on "World News Tonight" last night! Apparently with all Americans needing a passport to even go to Canada... the system is overwhelmed with passport requests. They are saying that the timing is taking up to 4 - 6 weeks longer then it had prior to new travel requirements. So, it's not just happening to you....

Thanks! It's reassuring to know it's not "just us." Not that I don't trust the efficiency of our government, but....
