Mr. Big Bad turned 3

Yesterday John, a.k.a. Mr. Big Bad, turned three years old. We were incredibly lucky to have been with him to have celebrated all three of his birthdays so far. We brought him home when he was 10 months old. My how he has changed, from being a small little guy to a big strong and independent 3 year old. My wife and I love John more than we ever thought possible and we can't imagine life without him. Watching him grow up is just the most amazing thing.

We celebrated with a party at the park. My wife and I reserved a pavilion at a local park and had lots of friends celebrate John's birthday with us. John really made out like a bandit. He already has a ton of cars and trucks, but now he has even more. My mother was able to come down and spend some time with him and he loved that. He can't wait until the summer to go out on the lake on my parent’s boat.

The really special thing about our party was that including John there were three children adopted from Russia there. There would have been a fourth, but she attended another birthday party instead.

By the way, last week we had some minor winds blow through, 70-100 mph. It knocked down our backyard fence in two places. As I was looking over the damage my wife and I started talking to our neighbor. In eight years we have barely talked to him. My wife asked if he had kids and he said no he was a single guy. She then asked about all the kids we see at his house. He said that they were his nieces and nephews. About that time one of them walked up. He was a good looking kid and 19 years old. During the course of our conversation I mentioned that John had been adopted from Russia. Our neighbor looked at us and then pointed to his nephew and said that he had been adopted from Russia. Of course that started a whole conversation on the subject. It turns out that he was adopted when he was 11 and that his biological brother and sister were also adopted from Russia. What a small world.

Congratulations! It is tough but a lot of fun to be the parent of a three year old boy!
Isn't it strange how conversations with the neighbors happen mostly in times of natural disasters??? We talk to our neighbors especially before and after hurricanes...
