You girls are babies!

I had our third bio DD one month shy of age 40.

We adopted Julia, then age 6, when I was 50.

You're going to be doing "something" your whole life. Might as make it something worthwhile.

I was just referred a 16-month old...at 46! This was below the lowest point of the range I requested... I was expecting to bring home a 3 year-old...

No problem...I'm in love!! Besides, I am suddenly motivated - have been working out religiously, changed my hair, watching the diet etc.

My new philosophy: I don't mind being the oldest mom in the PTA - I just don't want it to be obvious!

I'm 48 and we have a 6 year old and a 2 year old..suddenly retirement seems VERY far away.

Funny story-DH was home with our 2 year old a couple days ago waiting for an insurance adjuster to come look at our roof and house for hail damage. He got out of the car and said "Well how lucky for you--you get to spend the day with grandpa". DH was flabbergasted so the guy who was going to do the work let the adjuster know the little boy was DH's son.

The same thing happened to me when 4 years ago when shopping at Tarjay with our now 6 year old-the clerk asked him if he was having a fun time shopping with grandma today. OK, so I probably looked a tad bedraggled because I was sleep deprived. My response was..well I don't know how old you were when you had your children and you may be a grandma--but not me.

But I have to admit--although I am tired at the end of the day--my kids keep me young, give me an excuse to act like a fool in public any time I want and I can now tell people I have earned my wrinkles

I am 51 and DH 55. We have a 5yo adopted at 13months and 6yo adopted at 6 months. We are both retired and it is the best time of our lives, most days.

My husband just turned 45 when we went to Russia to adopt our 11 mo. old. He claims he's "tired all the time" but he's still doing the job!

You're far from alone - I'm 48, DH is 49, and our son was 5 in February. While I havent been called grandma (yet) one of DH's staff at his new job saw a photo of Tim on his desk and commented as to what a cute grandson he has!

Wow, great thread. I feel better just reading everyone's responses. I'll be 43 next month. Six days before my son turns 3. We're also about to make our second trip to adopt a one-year old. So, there you go. There's a lot of us out there. Just not in my son's preschool. It's ok, makes me feel wiser than I really am.

I'm 46, and my son just turned 3. I found a local mom's forum with a thread asking, "who are the older moms out there?" Their idea of "old" was 30+!!!!! LOL!!!!

I must say, my son is sure keeping me young.

Best wishes to all you other very young (40+) moms out there,
CindyC

I'm so glad you posted this! I thought I was alone!

I am 42 and have a 6 year old bio and I REALLY want to adopt a child, but I'm feeling really old. You girls encourage me so much!

Hi,

I am 50 and DH is 52 with a two year old, our first and only child.

For us, this is the best time for having a little one and we are happy.

We are both having some minor body aches and get a little tired by the end of the week, but a little resting and we are back on our feet again.

I think the hardest part is not quite fitting into the rest of the world where we live now. The moms are younger here than in the urban area where we lived before. I haven't gotten the grandma comment yet.

Nice for me to know, too that there are some older moms on this forum.

Karen
