Appostille Issue - a Friend

Dear Forum Friends,

I have a question for a friend that is on their way to Russia and was updated today from the region that they are adopting from that there has been an issue come up in regards to Apostilles being stapled..that they need to be attache another way other than the use of a staple. Have any of you heard of this? I am fairly sure that most states staple the apostille page on the document to be authenticated?

ANy thoughts???

interesting. can't say i am surprised.

in michigan, they staple and then fold over a gold seal so that it's over the front and back of the stapled pages.

in russia, the documents are sewn together. at least in our region they were.

not sure about this, but I know our state uses a rivet to attach the papers together.

NC uses a special glue. And yes, alot of regions in Russia will NOT take stapled apostilles. Just another quirky thing w/ them. Find a friend at the apostilling office tell your friend. That will help w/ the "quirks" that come up.

Good luck,

Our state used rivets to hold the pages together.
Also a large round Gold seal was added to the top page.

I echo what Abdulina said.

Texas uses staples, and I have to admit I thought that was too easy a way to put the docs together!

In NJ they use staples too. Moscow in 2004 did not have an issue with this, but they to only 'SEW' their documents together. I was told by my agency facilitator, that there is a 'person', that that is their only job... to sew them together! I was so surprised. Well, when I got my paperwork, there it was, the 6 page court decision... it was sewn together

I agree, talk to your Apostille office, and explain the situation, and ask if they can a glue or paperclip or something for your friend.

CA uses staples, but with a stamped seal that covers both the apostille and the document. Kemerovo didn't seem to have a problem with that, and in fact some of the documents we received from them were stapled...

Staples in Vermont, and WI doesn't even attach them...you can order an apostile with the name of the notary, the date and your checkbook...they will not handle the original (at least not by mail)

Massachusetts staples them. No problem in the Kemerovo region. The only "problem" we had was that the notary would put her seal in one spot, and then the state would Apostille over that.

Florida was a staple too. Our Russian documents were all sewn. Am I to take it that I will have to learn to sew for adoption number two? No problem. Can we sew our own documents?
