Our referral may be lost (long)
I just got off the phone with our agency and they believe our little boy may no longer be available. They haven't been able to get any new information on him and think that's the reason. I had been wondering if this was the case as we've been waiting for re-accreditation but couldn't get any other info. This has been a fear in the back of my mind for some time so I'm not totally shocked but we'll see how I feel when it sinks in more.
They softened the blow by telling me about the option of an independant adoption on another little boy about a year old with hip dyplasia. They have no other medical information, only a picture. I know what it is but don't know what the short/long term effects are. Can anyone help with this? I'd like to be a little more informed before I break the news to DH.

I am so sorry to hear about your referral. I can only tell you what I know in our situation regarding hip dysplasia. Our son had that listed on his medicals but was fine. Our Dr told us that often children are diagnosed with hip dysplasia because their joints are so loose when they are born. Just what happened with us..... Good luck!!

I am so sorry that you might lose your referral. I cant even imagine. Drew was diagnosed with hip dysplasia but he ended up not having it either. I did read so many things and if it is caught early enough it is definitely treatable. They are usually put in some kind of a brace for a certain amount of time....normally up to a year.

So very sorry to hear about the possible loss of your referral. This must be very upsetting, and just wanted to lend support.
Also to add, I've heard of many folks whose initial medicals showed hip displasia and it turned out to be either non existent or very minimal. Russian medicals are definitely scary up front, but often don't reflect a lot of accuracy. Best wishes and big hugs to you.

Cindy -
I'm very sorry for the potential loss to your family. We went through it too - losing our two while waiting for court. From this side of things I know that life moves on and the right children find your family. It sounds good that you have available options - I hope you learn what you need to know!

I am so sorry to hear this. It turns my stomach each and every time I hear about anyone losing a referral. Waiting is hard, but losing a referral is the worst. I know, we lost one, albeit for very different reasons.
I know nothing about anything when it comes to medicine, but would it be possible to hire an MD to examine your child in the orphanage? Some regions don't allow this, but if your does, regardless of the outcome, it empowers you with information so you can make decisions and be at peace with whatever you decide. |

Caaron - so sorry to hear this. We are also in the long wait for trip one dates, so I very much know what you've been feeling. I pray for clarity for you and DH during this decision making process

My daughter did have hip dysplasia, (though most people I know whose kids had it on Russian medicals turned out not to) the treatment was she had to wear a brace at night that kept her legs in a frog position while she slept for a few months. That was it.
