OT - ?? Charlotte NC and Update

Adam is doing good. We were home 9 months ago yesterday. He is speaking more every day, but he is still delayed. He is getting evaulated again next week. He also turned 4 last month and has gotten much taller. He is all boy. Loves playing with his Brio trains and cars. He now has the attention span to watch TV. He loves watching Noogin and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We are going to Disney in August and whenever he sees something from Disney he gets so exicted.

I got laid off from my job a few weeks ago and now Adam is home with me since I took him out of day care. He enjoyed going to school every day, but he likes staying home too. Hopefully the weather will warm up more so we can spend more time outside.

Since I got laid off, my husband and I had a serious talk about moving to NC. The main objective to is be closer to family. My parents live in an area that is too expensive and same with DH's mother. DH's father and step mother live in NC. They have offered to let us live with them until we get settled in and find a home to live in. They have a huge house and we would have the whole upstairs to ourselves, which includes two full baths, two bedrooms and a huge bonus room. So my husband is putting a transfer request with his company to get a position in Charlotte.

We have also decided to get at least a four bedroom house.. hmm an extra bedroom what can that mean? Time will tell.

I have a question about the schools since my inlaws have no knowledge of the school system. I have read that the following school districts are good; Cabarrus County, Union County, Mooresville City, Ft. Mill, and Clover.

Also, we would need to find a good home study agency to finish up our post placement report.

Any comments or suggestions would be great!

Thanks.

Though I live in the Raleigh area, I can tell you that if you live in Charlotte, you really can't go wrong w/ the schools there. Mecklenburg county schools are notariously the best in the state and have the stats to back it up. If you son requires any special ed services( don't know if he does or doesn't just thought I'd mention it), then NC is not the best place for special ed. I had two IEP meetings today and fought and yelled and fought and yelled to get services for my new daughter and son. Contact me off list if you want more info. But you can't go wrong w/ Mecklenburg County. Good luck.

Hi Elissa,

We're headed down to Mooresville tomorrow! We went in October too, and liked it, and since we now have an offer on our house, we can get serious with the possibility of moving!

From what we've researched, Mooreseville schools are good - I have a forum that you might like, so please feel free to email me, and I'll forward it to you.

How exciting!

Susan

I live in Raleigh area and agree that Charlotte area schools have good reputations. If looking for a home study agency in Charlotte, look no further than Nathanson Adoption Services. Helene Nathanson is a wonderful lady and a joy to work with. Their website is Nathanson Adoption Services Home Study Agency International & Domestic.

Thank you all for the information. My head is spinning. We the realtor here today who sold us this house giving us his thoughts of what we can sell it for.

Votemom and Vinsue I sent you a pm with my email address.

Abdulina thank you for the offer if I need it I will let you know. My oldest doesn't have any learning disabilities and with Adam I believe it is mostly speech, but maybe next week's evaulation might show different.

The school system seems better there with more options then what we have here in PA.

NewNCDaddy. Thank you for the home study agency recommendation.

Hopefully my husband's transfer will come through soon so we can put the house up on the market.

Thanks again.

Hi there.. I live in Cornelius, NC (just north of Charlotte) and I'm a transplan from NJ. (it is hard to find someone) who is from NC .
I can tell you about Meck, Iredell and Catawba. Can't go wrong with Mooresville - excellent schools there. Depending on where you are in Meck, schools can be really good or really bad. Meck just got a new school superintendent and he is starting to make some positive changes. We have a great local adoption support group and a FRUA group is just starting up. The whole area is very family/kid friendly.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Hi from Charlotte!

Hello!

I was born and raised in Charlotte, and my dh and I LOVE it!

I will pm you links to school systems, neighborhoods, etc., etc. I have friends with kids in both private and public schools in Charlotte Mecklenburg, (as where I went), and they are all really happy.

The nice thing about living in Charlotte is that you have so many choices for schools, places to live, etc.

Even after growing up in the area, I am still discovering new parts of this city every day!

I will pm you soon with a list of links to Charlotte and the surrounding areas!

Have a good night,

Brandii
