Russian grocery stores in the U.S.

Russian grocery stores are hard to find in the U.S. I've used White Acacia in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, and I currently shop at Prime Foods Market in Livingston, N.J. Can people tell me what Russian grocery stores they use? Please list store name, city and state, so others can find them.

Hi --

There's one here in Atlanta on the corner of North Druid Hills and Briarcliff, but I cannot recommend it. Did a shopping trip with Russian friend and she said all the grains she bought were full of weevils and had to be thrown away.

Sigh.

We live just outside of Portland, Oregon and there are 4 or 5 Russian grocery stores in the SE area of the city. I've been in most of them. I get cold, stoney stares.. Oh well..

Oh Kim...sorry about the stares. They either just ignore me or start talking to me in Russian. I'm sure my blank stare says is all! Have you found any restaurants?

Net Cost Market is very big in Brooklyn and I know they have more than one location. They also have a store in the northeast section of Philadelphia where I do some shopping.

Oh, it doesn't bother me. Pretty much the same expressions I got in Moscow grocery store - and honestly the same expression I saw most people get at the Moscow grocery store!

We've eaten at the restaurant on 65th and Foster a couple of times. It was good and interesting. Hardly anyone there - and they were only speaking Russian. The waiter spoke English - and it was fun to 'experience' Russia at home.

I also ordered take out pelmeni at Ararat on MLK. They actually have different menus on different days - so not Russian every day. I forget some of the others - Armenian...? Anyway - they were awesome. I called and told them I needed a potluck item for an international theme at my son's school - and that we were in the process of adopting a baby from Russia so I wanted something Russian. They weren't even open yet (I called earlier in the day) but they said to show up at the time I said I needed it and knock on the door and they would have something for me. The food was great and big potluck size. You can't beat that customer service!

Small World!

I would have never believed it - I shop in the same Russian food store (Prime Foods) in Livingston, NJ!!

You can find a much better selection of Russian stores in Fair Lawn, NJ - there are so many of them, and selection and prices are better, probably because of competition. (That's per my parents who have time to go there - so they buy stuff for all of us, as we live together with them).

If it's restaurants and Russian food, Manhattan's lower east side is wonderful! There are several fantastic, inexpensive places to eat, and some of the local churches have kitchens where the members make piroghies (sp?) that you can buy on Saturday night -- so you have your special Sunday brunch ready to cook up. Oh my! I recall going to a little hole in the wall on a sultry summer evening, and the opener was a cold cherry soup -- one of the most scrumptious dishes I've ever had. Lovely! (Now, if I only had the recipe....)

Where do you live? I also have shopped at the store in Livingston.. its two minutes from my work.

In NJ, there is also a nice store on Rt 27 in Highland Park and on Route 18 in East Hanover. Marlboro NJ area has several, though I have not visited.

The names escape me today, but I will post them when I rememeber.
