Hats for Orphanage Donation

I have 2 dozen knitted hats if anyone is interested in them for their orphanage donation - free.

A little background on the hats . . .

My Granny has knitted these hats for years for our State's children home. When we adopted from Russia in 2005, we took about 30 hats over as part of our orphanage donation. Since then, we have started the Cover The World Project, to see that every child has a warm head and something homemade to make them feel special (she does the knitting, and I find gracious families that are willing to carry these precious hats to the orphanages). To date we have sent over 130 hats to various orphanages in Russia.

If anyone is interested, please PM me. I have 2 batches (dozen hats each) that I will mail to you, I will pay postage to US residents.

Thank you in advance!

I have a confession....

i work for st jude childrens research hospital in memphis and several of the ladies groups make hats for the kids as they are bald from chemo.

Well, one group of employees made about 100 beautiful knit hats of all sizes (infant to toddler to child) for the orphanage (Volsk) that our boys came from. They wanted to do something for the kids in the orphanage. I was stunned and so touched that they wanted to do that "for us and our kids". Well, I've had them in my closet at home for almost two years not quite knowing what to do with them... Our agency doesnt really do russian adoptions anymore so I dont really know how to get them over there.. it seems so overwhelming to fedex something to russia and not even know how to write the address on the box etc. I know that those are all very poor excuses but its my reality.

At least every week I think about those beautiful warm hats and feel bad about not having sent them...

I'm bumping this up. I think its two lovely offers of gifts and I hope someone takes you up on it soon. My mum and her friends at the church knit hats/scarves/gloves for orphanages in the Urkraine and if I was living in the States I'd take them off your hands but living in Spain.....

good idea to keep this bumped up. someone will be traveling soon and make room. remember you can travel light for yourself, and take an extra suitcase full of donations and leave the suitcase there so you don't have it to drag around on the trip home.

we went for 2+ weeks and lived out of our carry-ons, and we able to take FOUR large rolling suitcases full of donations.

Thank you all for the wonderful responses and PMs!! I have the 2 orders ready to mail out this week to 2 loving families that will soon be traveling. I am keeping a list of all the other families that PM'd me to send hats out as soon as my little Granny finishes. If anyone would like to be added to the list that is traveling (maybe late Spring/Summer), please PM me.

For those who want to read my Granny's story (sorry it's so long . . ) -

When Granny was 10 years old her Father passed away. This was in the early 1930s and
during the Great Depression. She was one of five children (two boys and three girls). Being that her Mother was now widowed with five children (youngest girl was 18 months old), she did not have the money at the present time to take care of all of her children. She decided to send the boys to the state orphanage and then in two weeks she would send the two older girls (my Granny would be included). Then once she was able to get a job in the mill and get the money saved up, she would send for her children to come home. Well, during the boys first week away tragedy struck, and one of my Granny's brothers drowned in a small pond at the orphanage.

My Great Grandmother was devastated, that she sent for her only living son to come back home and she would figure a way to work and raise four children on her own.

This story is why any child in an orphanage is so near and dear to her heart. She knows what
it is like to almost be sent away to an orphanage, and does not know what her life would have been like if things had turned out differently.

Thank you all for helping us Cover The World !!!
