Preparing to Be A Sister [humor]
My 15 year old, who was adopted from Khabarovsk Russia in 2004, is so excited about getting a little brother from Kazakhstan soon. My boy is 10 years old and is missing his right hand.
I make my daughter write a short essay every day, to sharpen her writing skills. Yesterday's essay was entitled "Things I Want to Tell My Little Brother That Nobody Told Me." I came up with the topic. I am getting ready to travel in a few weeks and we both dread the separation, but the essays are also a way to help her also to express her feelings. When I got home and read the essay last night, I couldn't laugh, but I wanted to so bad. Items she wanted him to know include: You will make lots of friends at school. You have to bathe every day! Mom has to be obeyed. You have to make your bed every day. You have to have good manners. It was gratifying to see she has learned so much! The sweetest part was: "We will love you a whole lot, no matter what." Dee

Our family was soooo anxious, waiting for a court date to get Guanna-to-be-Julia. Hannah, then age 10, did some prep, too. See it here: The Woodworth Family in Beautiful San Antonio TX

Dee.
Just haven't had much time to get on. Godspeed to you, DD, your Mom, and the new one. DD's comments so sweet. Your next book needs to reflect that acceptance and kindness! Victoria |
