Well, we just got a call from TLC..they are not choosing us for their Surviving Motherhood show. They said we don't really "fit" into the group they are going to use...

I can't say that I am not a little disappointed, especially b/c I really wanted to do it to promote IA, but the more I have thought about it and have seen the show, the more I was leary.

It is more of a "problem" show, and besides a few typical toddler behaviors, Hannah is doing great. In fact, the scout said she is one of the smartest 18 month olds she has come across..I just don't think we have enough "issues" to make a good show...and for that, I am very glad!
Also, I was a little afraid that the few things she does do (sometimes), they would sort of showcase them and we would have sort of "set her up" to try and catch them on tape. That really bothered me.

I am a little annoyed that they looked for US...wanted at adoptive family...called our adoption agency...interviewed me 3 times...then said they really wanted to meet with us...sent a scout out for hours, and then ah, no, you aren't what we need. In fact, they told me they were actually looking for DADS when they came down to Tampa...WTF?? They WHY did you seek us out....my dh had to take off work and we were going crazy trying to get our house ready..hmmm..oh well.

Anyway, all in all, I am glad we were not picked. Hannah is a wonderful, healthy child, and I really don't want to stress her with something like this. Also, i was not looking forward to "being in the spotlight". So the idea was exciting, but the reality was it was probably not going to be the best thing for our family. IN FACT, I KNOW it was not going to be, because God is in control and if it was meant to be it would have been.

They are placing us as an alternate...I told them we would, but I am sure we would get such short notice..don't think we would do it anyway.

So folks..I would be glad to share my autograph (HAHA) but no TV for us...wow...now I can sit back, relax, and enjoy everyday life again.

So they wanted to do a Surving Motherhood show, using a family that adopted, but only wanted to show a family that is having problems... sounds like that could cast a negative light on adoption in general. Probably best that they chose not to use your family for this.

Barton, well, they "said" they it is about the joys and challenges of Motherhood...but after the interviews I started watching the show and saw that every day a family was "showcased" and they discussed "problems". Not necessarily bad ones, but terrible 2s, sibling rivalry, dealing with jealous sib of a special needs child, temper tantrums, bedtime isues..that kind of thing. Hannah is really a very easy child....the only really things I had to offer were she likes to tear books sometimes, and then the challenges of potty training with a kid who came home at 11 months and WANTED to continue it...I don't think they could have really made a show of pretty much nothing....but from interview 1 I told them she had very few issues and ones that were rare and not typical. They wanted to proceed anyway...but you are right, it would have unlikey looked "good" for IA...they had psychologists involved with the show and may have blown little things way out of proportion for TV sake..who knows....but the more I think about it the more I realize that we had different goals...me....wanting to share the joys of IA and them wanting to find issues with it.

Hi! We all know that you would have been a powerful advocate for IA (and we know that you still are and always will be). Of course, we're all a bit sad that we can't call all our friends, and say "Channel ___, Time ___, Be There or Be Square, I KNOW this lady!"

But, of course, many of us don't KNOW you and your DH and your little girl, but we feel that we do. You are kind. You are thoughtful. You are (in the Friends' sense of the word) discerning. At least, that's what I know about you.

It really IS so great that you and babe are doing SO well that you all did not qualify. Does a flower help?

I'm bummed we wont be able to see you, but maybe its for the best. I always worry a little about how these shows get edited. It seems like if there aren't any problems then they dont think it will be good TV. Kinda sad, really.
