What did your husband wear for court?
How dressy?
Obviously I have too much time on my hands. I'm wondering if he needs a suit/sport coat or if a dress shirt & tie would suffice. TIA,

Hi Doreen.... Though I went through the process by myself.... I had met up with another couple adopting through the same program as I did (they where from Florida - Me - NJ). Anyway, the 'father' wore a suit, and while at the court house, (you could SPOT the Americans big time), all of the men wore at the least a nice coat and tie. I think it was about 50/50 between suits and coat and tie. They ALL looked very nice, and in Moscow.... THEY ALL DRESSED to the 9's !
Personally, I wore a black suit and heels, and felt like I fit right in !!!

So wearing my Bush/Cheney 2004 t-shirt to court, not a good idea???

Well, it was 104 degrees on our day of court!! So, I wore a skirt, sweater tank top, and heels, no hose. I brought a short sleeved jacket to go with the 'suit' look, but our coordinator - in a black summer dress where you could see her middle - laughed and said to wear what I wanted but the jacket was NOT necessary.
DH wore a nice shirt and slacks - but way too hot for jacket or tie! However - like me - he PACKED the complete suit and asked if it would be appropriate. All the people in court were female - including our judge. All the women were in sleeveless summer dresses, heels, no hose. The judge did wear her robe - but had a skirt and short sleeved blouse on underneath. We saw her without her robe when we presented her with her gift after court was out. I think proper, well dressed attire is a must. But, what is considered appropriate probably changes with the region and the season!

As it was around 15 degrees and sleeting, and there was no heat, either at the hospital/orphanage or in the court building, we both had on 2 sets of long underwear and turtlenecks. DH wore tailored Dockers, snow boots, a nice but heavy sweater, and his good, tailored winter coat. I wore a burgundy velveteen maternity dress (no kidding! and I was not with child -- I had to in order to fit all the layers -- in addition to long handles, thick cotton tights and leg warmers) and my good, tailored winter coat. Our hands were bluish by the time court was over.
(Judge wore what appeared to be three sweaters and a heavy overcoat -- he did take off his hat before the session began). |

Like the other posters DH wore a tie and a starched blue shirt with a black suit coat and black slacks. I had a skirt, hose, turtlenesk short sleeved sweater and a knee length suit jacket in a pastel print along with a black pashmina. Three other couples were there with us and only one of them was dressed up.
At the end of the day we all got our dream come true but I can't help thinking that we are a reflection of the country we are from. Americans are typically perceived as sloppy so we wanted to look our best.

My DH wore a nice suit and tie. I also wore a black suit and heels. I felt very appropriate. Court is nerve-wracking enough without worrying if you are dressed well enough (even though the anxiety was self-imposed...our judge was wonderful)!

My husband wore a suit and tie. I wore a black skirt that had a small floral print and a black cardingan and tank top underneath it. My son wore kakis and a dark blue collared shirt.
The court translator was wearing a jean skirt and jean jacket. The court recorder was wearing jeans and a blouse. We were the most dressed up person in the court room. This was in court in Moscow City. |

I am the husband, and I wore nice black pants, and dress shoes. I wore a collarless dress shirt (no tie because no collar). I felt appropriately dressed according to what everyone else there wore.
Had I worn a suit, I would have felt WAY overdressed (our court was on Sept 21 and it was nearly 70 degrees in Vladivostok).

HI Elissa.... I was too in Moscow City court. We probably had the same court reporter... jeans, sexy blouse and very, very high POINTY heals :O I had a male judge, filling in for the woman adoption judge. He was NOT use to dealing with adoptions, and I was nervous as could be...... my translator even looked worried!!! All worked out fine, but I would MUCH rather be DRESSED formally, then underdressed (just how I personally felt)..... Oh, I was in court on December 23rd with about 2 1/2 feet of snow and ice. Walking up the very steep driveway to the court house (you know what I mean) was NOT FUN!!!! I slipped 3 times, but was fine in the end...
