Do you need to live in a House
to adopt from Russia? I have an acquaintance who says that her paperwork is done for Russia but she lives in an apartment complex. I could have sworn that you had to live in a house to adopt from Russia, especially because some of the pictures you send have to be of the front and back yard.

I don't think it is so much about a house vs. apt..I think that it is more about renting/owning. I don't think living in an apt. will prevent one from adopting though...from what i have heard they may want to look more into the finances to make sure one can afford to adopt.
You may be rememebering another forum friend who lives out of the country and Russia wants her to "own" a home in the USA..or something like that. I think she is working around it though...I hope so anyway!

Multiple agencies have told me that renting will not, on its own, preclude a person from adopting from Russia.

Hi NHook.... Nope.... The paperwork needed for a "Renter" is a copy of the Rental agreement/lease, and a current letter for the owner/manager that all fees are current. I owned a Townhome when I adopted my DD, and did not have a back yard (persae'), but the community had a playground and pool, so I wrote about them, and included a photo of both with my dossier. My girlfriend adopted this year, and she rents a house. She was fine with her Rental Agreement, and financial paperwork. No problems.....
Blessings.......................... ![]()

We were renting a house when we adopted in 2004 and no problems at all. Never even asked us about it -

My wife and I just had court Sept 21, 2006 and we are currently renters. We had to have a copy of our rental agreement. Our prosecutor was a royal pain in the ... and drilled us on why we don't own any property, but we got through it fine (with some big help from our interpreter).

Well, we got the prosecuter that doesn't like international adoptions (nor did she like the previous social worker from the city I adopted from). The questions I got asked were: "Why don't you own a home?" "I see you lived in another state, do you own any property there?" "What are your plans for owning a home?" "Because you don't own a home, can you afford to support a child?" As far as answering these questions, I replied mainly with mentioning the fact that we do not own property. Our short term goal is to continue renting while the long term plan is to buy a house. I did also add "when we can afford it." (which was stupid) but the interpreter didn't translate that portion of my statement! (THANK GOD!) Our income is sufficient to add a child to our home, as evidenced by our financial statement, but it didn't stop them from examining it closely. (We're not rich but our incomes are good...but we also have a lot of debt right now because of student loans and a new car).
