After seeing pics of Tracy's precious Tess sucking her fingers..I just got to thinking..that would be a really fun thread for us to share our kiddos who are finger suckers! They just don't get any cuter than those little "yummies" in their mouths!
Hannah is funny, she is also a "middle finger sucker" but BACKWARDS! I wonder where she picked that up. Anyone else's kiddos do that? Maybe it is a Russian thing!

Emery is a thumb sucker he sucks his thumb and rubs his upper lip with his pointer finger.... I will try to find a picture of it!!!!

Isn't that interesting about Emery. Ava sucks her thumb and rubs her upper lip and nose with her two fingers. She used to rub the forearm of the sucking hand with the free one, but that has stopped lately.

Our daughter is a horrible finger sucker. Is this because it was unlikely they used pacifiers in Russia or is this just a kid thing???

I don't have a picture, but my Vika only sucks her fingers when she sleeps. She sucks on her first 2 fingers of left hand (pointer & middle). Since she is 3 1/2 yrs old, we are strongly encouraging her to stop because of the damage it can cause. She is trying to stop (which really helps) and I praise her every morning she doesn't suck on them (which is getting more frequent). Even though she mostly just holds her fingers in her mouth rather than actual sucking she does suck when they first go into her mouth.

Finger sucking is a comfort thing and very habitual.

Hannah also sometimes puts her pinky up her nose as she sucks the 2 middle fingers..and then with her other hand she pulls on her earlobe. It is just too cute!
I wonder if in Russia they put their fingers in their mouths and encourage it early on?

we have talked to our dentist and orthodontist, and they both told us not to worry about right now-that it would not hurt her teeth since she is so young and still has her baby teeth.

Jake is also a finger sucker. He suck his two middle like Hannah, but facing the other way. I don't think I have ever seen a child suck their finger the way your Hannah does.

When Jake suck his fingers he takes his pinkie and brushes it across his lips. He does not actually suck as much as he almost licks his fingers with his toungue. Strange.

My Hannah was also a thumb sucker, but I get the impression that they tried to break her from it at the orphanage because when she would put it in her mouth, if I looked at her she would immeditately pull it our. Mostly she just did it at night (when no one was watching).

Alex too - middle two fingers and only the right hand. Used to do it all the time - esp when he was hungry or sleepy. Now he only does it when we get into his rocking chair and ready for night night time.

I love it! It's like a backwards "I love you" in American Sign Language (at least I think so)

And that picture of her in the dutch oven/pot is adorable! Save that one for pulling out for the boyfriends!

DD would ball up her entire FIST and put it in her mouth, particularly if she was weepy. I think the poor little thing was trying not to cry out loud. Perhaps an orphanage/hospital thing....

Hello All! I am a long time lurker and first time poster. I couldn't resist the post . I have a little girl who sucks her thumb and index finger on her left hand. She also has to have a tag in her hand. It doesn't matter what the tag is attached to. I hope you enjoy. I love all of the other pictures.

Our youngest, Alexis is a BIG finger sucker, but only when she's tired. Funny though, she will NOT suck on her fingers outright, she has to either suck them through her shirt or a blanket. We have many wet shirts in our house!

This is the only picture I could find, it is her usual pose after five minutes of sleeping-the fingers fall out of her mouth, but the blanket stays in! LOL

Summer is a closet thumb sucker, I agree with above posts that the orphanage looked down on the habit. In fact the judge actually asked us
" ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT A CHILD SUCH AS THIS, WHO HAS A HORRIBLE HABIT OF SUCKING HER FINGERS??"

uh... yeah!!!!!
